Sub Drop

Postby ikechukwu » Tue Nov 22, 2005 9:05 pm

Bass sound where a lowpass filter is assigned to an envelope to cut frequecies from the high resonance bass sound....Achieving an effect where it sounds like the sound drops in pitch but gets fuller the lower it gets.

You know the one....Its so famous, it's a clique in DnB nowadays.

Anyway, how do you create this in an E6400?

Can someone give a step by step....I'm stuck at the part where you want the filter to sync to the key that you press (is that right?)....Basically I'm stuck where I can get the sub drop to sound good on one note, but not on others.

PS. Is there a section on the forum where people can upload the presets that they have made...I'm new to this sampler and so would love to be able to download other people's presets and take them apart to learn more about this fascinating machine.

I'm disappointed in you all

I found this one myself...I think it should work if you attach the Key cord source to the FilFreq destination.

Thanks a lot guys...Great help

Oh dear, I'm sorry for being a bit behind on this one but the board has been pretty slow in general at the moment.

Because you said 'I think', does that actually mean you have solved the problem or not? If not how about suggesting a track with the desired effect in it and tell us where about in the track it appears. My interpretation is that you are looking for the classic* bass noise that was basically a stretched out 909 Tom that pitches down at the end.

Thanks a lot guys...Great help

No problem

To be honest, it's probably better that you worked it out for yourself. Most synths have a Key cord in one form or another so it seems as if it was more of general synth question rather than one relating to the Emu.

With regards to your question about uploading Presets, it's a great idea but alot of people can be very precious of their Presets.

NO

I was wrong...I haven't solved it....I found out how to use the Key cord but it doesn't seem to give the desired effect  ...Arggh

Maybe it's a thing with samplers as I could never get a sub drop working in Kontakt when I used to use software, but the great Novation V-Station VST synth could create thunderous sub drops.

In case people don't know what I'm on about when I say sub drop (what planet have you been on for almost 20 years  )...Erm...I mean the sound where the bass tone pitches down....BUT...Not through pitch...Through filtering a high resonance tone....C'mon you know....And it's definitely not a pitched 909....Where's bloody Sample & Hold when you need him

One thing I did manage with the Emu which SNH was stuggling with, was to create a fantastic pad sound with lots of atmosphere and movement...PURELY using a sample of time stretched noise, the bat filter and a few envelopes modulating filter and amplitude...God I love this machine...It does it all.

If certain people are too precious to share patches....Cuh...That's not the spirit.

I will put a little clip of this pad up online and tell all y'all how I made it...The key thing is here that with some more experimentation, it can sound even better than it already does.

More later.....Oh and someone help me out with the sub drop....PLEASE

Are U sure it is the filter frequency that drops and not the pitch?

Whohooo. Another norwegian Emu-user :) Well, I have'nt bothered to hear any of the tunes you posted, but if I remember right it is not a drop in pitch, but rather a filter frequency or something. Did get kinda that sound on my E-synth just toying around with filters.

Dunno what filter it was, but it kinda made my singing sound like whispering, so you could make the effect go the other way. If you catch my drift?

usually it's just an 808 pitching down. i can't recall ever hearing exactly what you're describing... almost every sub drop is just modulating pitch, not filter.

if the tone is from a resonating filter, then modulating it would effect both pitch and filter frequency.

i've been able to come up with some great bass drops by cranking the resonance and modulating the filter cutoff with an inverted envelope.
