sample Retriggering question

Postby jorigon » Fri Nov 25, 2005 12:10 pm

Hi!
I?m new to sampling and just starting to learn my E6400. This thing came up first:

I don?t know how those MPCs work in this situation, but I?d like to be able to start, stop and retrigger a sampleloop with just one keyboard key or pad (as I?m getting that M-audios triggerfingers soon). So is that possible somehow to program E-mu so that velocities over 100 retrigger the sample and below it either start or stop it?

My EOS isn?t the latest, it?s 3.x or something if that?s got something to do with this.

Thank?s

I do think it is possible to do what you are asking, but I'm not quite sure how to. Try experimenting with the cords. And yes, you want to upgrade your eos.

Hi, yes it is sort of possible but you need to familiarize yourself with a couple of things first.

First is understanding about the 'Loop Type' and 'Loop in Release' functions. Unfortunately this can only be set in the 'sample edit' and isn't available as a cord (one for the wishlist).

The second is 'Sample Retigger' - SRetrig in the cords section. On page 363 of my manual there's a simple tutorial on how to retigger a sample. Unfortunately this is a bit of bodge because you are relying on the LFO to retrigger the sampe which basically means it isn't going to be sample accurate. The other problem is that this doesn't work very well with short samples, the longer the better.

To get you retrigger thing working what you need to do is first make sure that your sample isn't set to loop so turn it off in Loop Type.

Next you need to set your cords up. I started on the first page of blank cords so my first cord number is 12.

12 DC to Switch -7%
13 Vel~ to Switch +100
14 Switch to C15Amt -1%
15 Lfo1~ to SRetrig +0%

I had to fiddle a bit with 12 and 13 so that Switch only became active when the key had a velocity if 100. There also might be a simpler way of doing it, anyone?

I was thinking just latch the sample. You hit the key once and it starts to play the loop, then you hit the key again and it stops.

Thank?s sampleandhold, but I also want to be able to retrigger it when hitting harder, like velocity >100. Then it won?t retrigger the sample cause the sample stops at the very same hit. But thank?s for trying!

I figured out another way. I should have twigged when you said the voice had to change by velocity. The only problem with this new way is that you need to use 2 samples instead of 1.

The first sample should have the loop turned off and the second sample an exact copy however the loop should be on.

Next assign both samples to the same midi note. In the Voices - Velocity Window (Vces-VelWin) make the first sample (with no loop) have a low of 0 and a high of 99. The second sample should have a low of 100 and high of 127, no fade on both.

That's it done, I prefer this way because you can now have sample accurate looping and also have all the options to assign different filters because each sample is a different voice.
