delays, and stuff, i guess...

okay, sometimes i feel when i try to use the effects on the emu, like the reverb and delays, i have a hard time getting them sound quite like i want them to. like i can't make a sample delay or echo just on the last part of it, perhaps i could chop up the sample, but i still would have to apply it to just that sample, probably have to do constant bank changes to get it to sound like i want. maybe someone has a better idea to control the efx... that would be cool too...

but i have a bit of a different idea:

lets say i have a sample that goes like "drop the bass" and lets say i want to have the word bass echo out, like this "drop the bass bass bass bass" say every quarter note on a song that is banging at 170. assuming the sample is on time.

well i would take 60 and divide that by 170 and come up with 0.352941176470588235294117647058824... okay will just say 0.35

i would then go into sample edit and go into the loop section, and set a loop point about 0.35 seconds long on the section that says bass, set the loop and fix the point. so now what will happen when it hit the key that has the sample saying "drop the bass", it will say "drop the", then loop "bass" over and over until i let go of the key. so now if i want to i can hit the key in and then auto the track to decrease the volume, or i can do something easier... like this:

i go into amp/filter section. go to the amp envelope and tweak the rls1 section of the adsr envelope. say set the time or what ever to a desirable lenght, and set the % to desireable settings, but not too high or else it will get stuck and loop and if you really screw it up, it will loop and get louder. you can play with this section of the adsr and figure out what you want, so that is why i am not giving out any numbers here.

so what happens now is when i hit the key and release, the sample will play through and then echo out. i could also set up a filter envelope to low pass it, or whatever. hell i could even use an the aux envelope and make it pitch up as it decays out, and filters out... ...with Q... yeah

now you maybe thinking that, well this is neat but what if i want to have it not do that sometimes, but do it other times, and what if i want it to last longer, say maybe have it end the song by echoing out for 15 seconds or something.

easy...

go into the matrix mod and select a controller to control the envelope release, i think it is amprls, or something like that, and set the percentage to what you want. so you can make it not echo out at all, or make it echo out longer, and if the controller is not applied, it will of course echo out as you wanted, default.

and of course if you needed to chop up the vocal sample, you could just loop the last piece and do the same. and if you find that you don't have enough of a length, you could also just cut and past some more dead space at the end of the sample, so you have that room to loop, of course you shouldn't have to have 5 seconds of dead space, one second would more then likely be enough.

well that is my tip for the day, and now you don't have to use your efx processor to add an echo, and now you can use it to effect something else.

Good tip! One of the great things about the EMU is you can get your timing spot on with loop by having your sequencer play (poss with metronome, poss with break) and time it as you like in sample edit....wickedness :slayer:
