yes of course, emu's are very powerfull for synthesizing but there is no oscillators you must sample or import your waveforms.

I use mine e-synth as a kinda upgradeable sample-based synth. It works good!

I have made entire choon using just the emu sampler. In other words, I create most of the sounds using test tones like saws and tris. I also like playing around with over gaining those test tones in the emu. Sounds awesome.

All you have to do is sample a test tone and loop a cyle or so. I like to sample the tones around 55 or 110 hz because I want to get a majority of the overtones. Sampling at 440 is fine, but of course you get less overtones. The best possible way is to sample every other note on the keyboard. But I don't have time for such things. Maybe if I didn't work...

The eos use a kinda "modular-synthesis", which means that what you can do with it is almost unlimited. In my own opinion I find the synthesis in eos just as powerful, or even more powerful than many of todays samplebased-synths like for example the fantom series from roland. The emu it self got some "test tones" which are sinuswaves, trianglewaves and so on, so you can samples those waves into it's memory, loop them, and you will then have pretty much the same soundshaping-possibilities as on the occasional analogue synth. It will not sound quite as good as an true analogue synth, but hey, you can't make an analogue synth sound like a grand piano, can you?

This turned out to be kinda confusing, but my recommandation is that you get the e64. Just make sure it got an internal harddrive!

Test tones, however, if used wrong, will kill you. They are LOUD.
