RFX-32 Vocoder

Postby ehasting » Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:13 am

Yepp.. yesterday i tested out the vocoder, after reading about it in the rfx-32 manual. I am not in desperat need of robotic voices, but its nice to have the function. But the real fun started when i used (break beat) Drumloop as carrier, then a rez bass as modulator.. i also tested with AHH sound as modulator. Where i made the drumloop as a non-transpose.

It worked almost like a gate on the modulator, blending in sound from both parts. Sounds sweet. I will without doubt add that in my next track to spice up the beat :).

Okay..a quick demo.. actually i just felt i needed to show it off.. since i had totaly forgot it.. its not optimal.. but you can do much by controlling freq-width sibelance, balance between synth and analyze data. and so on.. ..

its a golden tool for making the beat super lofi :)

uh?? vocoder on a voice?? isnt that stuff they did in the 80?s or something??..

I think i have a vocooder on all my va synths (and all the other i have owned during my turbulence life with GAS)... but i never used them (except once, when i jammed with some friends.. ).. the emu vocooder have some sweetspot for beat messup.. but i am not into robotic voice :P

I havent had the chance to make much music lately.. and my inspiration is realy on all time low.. probably because of getting a second child.. beeing in trial with the house we bought 3 years ago.. and some few other stress moments :P I will get back.. and maybe i will do some vocooder on voice.. (you never know when robotic voices get hip again..) :P

Yeah ! That's it??(But the vocoder was created in the late 30's? And was originally created for vocal use.)

I am! And though I specialized in the talkbox, the vocoder has a special place in my heart (and in my home-studio as well) And even though most software or on-board synth vocoders don't sound as good as vintage analog vocoders, like my Roland SVC-350, I'm always curious about what they sound like. Especially when it comes from E-mu.

They are. But unfortunately, with that crapy Autotune plug-in?
