Sidechaining

Postby om » Sat Jul 12, 2008 1:23 am

Hey everyone, I've been using Logic 8 for a while now and a cool feature of the ES2 synth is that you route some audio through the synth (sidechain) and the audio triggers the synth.

I've been wondering how to do this on the Ultra? I've been looking at the audio in stuff but I think the answer probably lies in the cording setup. Has anyone done this with the Ultra? If so any enlightenment on how to do this would be great.

Thanks for the response house. I have those and I can't for the life of me work out how to modulate a sound with another sound.

I'll check out the mixer.

?

You mean FM ?

That?s not possible .

Only Dynamic and /or RFX Plug Ins can modulate with Sounds.

It?s a little bit hidden in the Routing ( nothing about that in the manual ) exept in the Vocoder Additionel appendix

You need EOS 4.7 and the Mixer - than you split the r/l Channel from Buss ( via GFX 1/2 ) and so one and so one.....

Hello everyone,
i'am happy owner of two e6400 ultra with two rfx since few years.
for following the initial question, how do you duck a bassline with a kik in the rfx, there's a feature call sidechain l/r but it seems not working.
Thanks for your advice

It is definitely possible with the RFX. I am about to fire up the old baby again after about a year or so apologies for any inaccuracies here however I've got a few RFX setups that use the sidechain. It's worth noting that it's not great at ducking audio instantly and in order to get over the clumsiness of the RFX I had to sequence a separate triggering kick before the actual audible kick could be heard. I can remember getting rather frustrated at trying to get a suitable result without clicks and pops however the invisible kick seemed to work.

You can also create a similar effect without RFX by using the GATE cord. I think you can get one voice to trigger when the key is pushed and another to trigger when the key is released. If you then experiment with the Attack and Release of the released voice then you can imitate a pretty convincing compressor pumping effect. Even better when you modulate the release of the initial voice and the attack of the secondary voice with a realtime controller.

(Once again apologies for any tosh here as I'm talking from memory)
