B3 percussion behavior chord

Postby aerodrink » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:29 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to achieve something that's quite simple : I have a B3 percussion sound, and I'd like to have it behave like a real B3 percussion : just like there's a general amplifier envelope, but would be started only at first note on, just like in this video (@ 1min'40s)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvFk_CNv0GQ

The first played note triggers some kinda envelope that would progressively lower the overall volume, even if other notes are played (and untill the last key is depressed).

I've worked on this for hours now, trying different patchcord settings, but could never find how to deal with the 'first note' issue without going into solo modes, which isn't what I want (I want to keep it polyphonic).

Any patchcord guru out there ?

Thanx for helping, I'll post if I find the trick ;)

Ok guys, after a fews days of brainstorming on that subject I finally came to the conclusion that there is no way to do it with patchcords at least on the e6400 Ultra

I used to own a Vintage Pro which is a great machine. One of the difference of the synthesis engine between the Ultra and the VP is that in the VP there are patch-level modulation chords (not only voice-level or group-level). Plus, there's a modulation source called "Preset Ramp" that does exactly what I needed for my B3 percussion sound

I think it would be absolutely possible to build a small MIDI device that could add an extra complexity to the embeded patchcords of the sampler, and that would implement a preset patchchords logic (responding to the sampler via the MidiA -> MidiL connectors), that would be very valuable to implement what's missing (this bloody ramp, typically :grumble: ).

I've already build a MIDI controller (thanks to the great DIY - MIDI projects site : http://www.ucapps.de/) so I know this is possible (with time & patience ...). Infos on my controller ->

Maybe if I've time ...

Laterz guys !

Wow, that is quite a midi controller! Maybe I'll give it a try myself. Regarding the hammond percussion I'm not quite sure how it can be done in eos, but I do think it's possible. Is your percussion click part of the original sample? Have you tried to play with the sample start cord?

Hi mate thanks for helping (not that many people on that thread) !

The percussion sound is a dedicated layer (not part of the original sample). I'd be very interrested if you find any trick for this ! But I never managed to get the "first key pressed" / "last key released" logic with patchcords ...

Cheers !

My emu is stuffed inside a band bus for the moment, so I can't check it, but you should see wheter it's possible to put the percussion at the start of the sample, and experiment with the sample start cord. I'll give it a try if I get the time before the next gig, the weekend after the next.

I've now implemented the 'Ramp' function into the Arkade controller itself as it is MIDI-merging capable (sends a ramp via MIDI L to the sampler whenever the FIRST key is pressed, reset when the last key is released).

What a pleasure to play with the real B3 percussion feel

Of course I'm still interrested to do it inside the sampler if anyones finds any tricky patchcord setting :slayer:
