Postby ehasting » Sun May 23, 2010 7:56 pm

Well.. the track are progressing.. moving into a more hmm.. upbeat progressive track with a calm feel..

using emu for drums.. bass and pads.. togheter with the nova and virus...

its just a short cut midways in the track :).

Nice percusion in the background there.. Sounds like its gone through some reverb. What kind of processing and sample is used for it?

The samples used for drums are various single shot sample cds.. mostly from drum machines 909, 808..606 and so on.. most of the magic is in the emu filters.. and eqing

all drums are triggered from the emu, then mixed down in logic.. compressed even more (using the rfx compressor in the emu), and eq-ed.
bass are emu and nova (three layers).. downmixed then eqed rather heavy to fit into the mix..

Some of the drums are actually triggered from the emu using the rfx for reverb and delay.. and filtred rather heavy (regular 4-pole low pass) with much resonanse..
basskick are from the emu going through the rfx compressor.. then down mixed into logic and slight eq (to cut hi freq, and boost low) and more compressor.

for reverb i am using the tc konnekt 24d dsp reverb.. which have a rather nice sound to it.. with slight modulation on the the tail.
other effects used in the sequencer are the tape delay in logic, compressor, eq.. all standard build in stuff.

what i love with the emu is the fact its sooo easy to take a drum kit.. build a beat.. then just duplicate the beat utilizing another channel on the emu.. then layer the beat again with heavy filter..

Thanks, I'll work on my drumprogramming. You mean you are resampling internally in the emu then?

On this track i havent done any resampling (samping from the emu back to the emu). i have done recording/downmixing from the emu to logic and EQ/compressing of the audio track in logic..

the challange is always to get the drum and bass as good as possible on the emu, so as little adjustment as possible is needed in logic.. but sometimes the drum samples and bass are to wide and overlaps each other in frequencies..

another cool trix is to record the drums (maybe except the basskick) direct back from the sequencer into the emu as a drum loop.. then filter it there (eventually use some rfx on it).. it can also be cool to trigger the drumloop one octave lower to get the half speed of the loop.. nice for breakdown parts :)

The drum and bass are really strong on this track and the mixing is excellent. Really good sound coming out of that Ultra. Do you ever use the RFX-32?

Hello,

I am actually using it a lot. Reverb, flanger, distort, delay.. all the stuff :).
The reverb+delay is amazing on pads... i acutally wish i had 128voice card.. i only have the 64voice..

But right now i have had 3 month away from music.. ( i just got my 3rd child).. but i will pick it up in short time :).

You would like to use 128 voices for the pads?

Naa.. but sevral pads can steal quiet many voices.. each having sevral voices. I often like to have the emu as midi as long as possible while making music, so that steals voices :)

With 3 kids, I'd say that's a pretty good effort

hehe..like me. But it´s ok. Better one good Album every 10 Years than 10 bad Albums every Year.
