Hi
Too get a really controlable breakbeat
1 Cut up your break into every single hit
2 map the hits to individual keys
3 Re-sequence the beat
4 Assign cont-controllers to - filter cutoff (try highpass as well as lowpass, the phase and flange filters work great to) - rez - pitch - fx sends (flange is good as are really short delays with a long release)
5 mess with the c-controllers in your sequencer
6 Resample the results
7 Map the new beats to keys
8 back to 3
To obtain the metalic stretch - time strech at 100% (ie turn a 160bpm beat into a 80bpm beat) this beat with work within the track as the timing fits the tune
You can destroy the audio further by repeating the 100% stretch (then add flange)
If you want to resequence the resulting metalic tones you can go back to step 1 ect
Here is another trick to tryMap the same break twice to the same key, pan them hard left and hard right and then offset the sample start of one sample to get a nice stereo phase(if you detune one side by a fine amount the phasing shifts in a interesting way, or you could even assign a lfo to fine pitch of one side of the pair for a modulating phase)
All the slicing and dicing maping and resequencing takes time but with a little patience you will start to get a very organic evolving sound from your 1 or 2 bar break
Remember to save your maps and banks because you can use them over again by resequencing and combining them in new ways with other banks you will create
Q how many ways is it possible to rework the Amen break
this is my fav break
