White noise generator simulation.

Postby Ommatidium » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:16 pm

I came up with this today, partly inspired by Jahfunk's 'SStart experiments:

1. Record a lengthy white noise loop from a synth (I used a 20 second sample from a Roland Juno 1).
2. Assign it to a Preset and switch on Non-transpose in Voice Tuning.
3. In cords, Krand1 > 'SStart +100%; Krand2 > Abs +20%; Abs > Pitch +100%

Sample Start randomization is to reduce the incidence of flanging when playing chords. However, Krand1 will occasionally pick two similar start points, so this is why I've added some pitch randomization on top. Absolute Value is used to invert the Krand2 negative values because transposing a white noise sample downwards causes it to get "duller", which we don't want.

All in all, it seems to work pretty well. You can splash about on the keyboard as much as you like and it sounds suitably... noisy.

Hi
This sounds interesting. Could you post the bank?
I,ve also been playing with white noise. I have created a patch that has c/controllers assigned to amp & filter envelopes some more controllers to regulate the lfo rate, depth and cutoff and rez.
With this setup I can create an infinite number off lifts and drops that build excitement before a break drops ect.
The white noise can filter sweep up (or down) with the lfo speed increasing (or decreasing) along with the depth building.
Also great for some effects such as wind, rain, sea, and great for retro snares (especially with some rez)
I will post some sound examples along with the patch for you all soon.

There's no floppy drive in my PC at the moment, so unfortunately I don't have an easy way of getting banks across (I basically unrack my E-mu and PC, take everything apart and install the E-mu HD it in my PC). I should buy a USB FD for moving small banks across.

I'll be interested to hear what you've achieved. All I've done with this is just make a template - no actual presets yet. I'll post some demos if I manage to do anything interesting with it. ;)

Another late night (the E-mu is soooo addictive).
Demo of bank is here, Check it out http://soundcloud.com/jahfunk
see NOISE BUILDS & DROPS Its downloadable
I am quite please with the result.
This bank is an invaluble tool to add some energy to tracks.
I will post the bank sometime soon

Why not get a SCSI zip drive for the E-mu and another USB one for the computer? Then you can swap wavs and e4 banks of any size easily ;)
I got the above demo together by simply resampling the c/controller tweaks as one big sample, and then exported this as a wav. I then dropped it onto the pc harddrive. from the zip.
The 250MB drives are real good for moving stuff around (faster and better storage size).

Nice work! 8-) Really smooth sounding through the E-mu filters, too. Yeah, I'm going to pick up a removable device of some sort soon. I tried an IDE CF adaptor a while ago, but - predictably - the E-mu didn't like it. :/

Hoping to find some time this weekend to start making some patches.
