Question about patches

Postby atomicmidi » Tue Nov 29, 2011 5:22 pm

Uhm ok guys, I have a bit of a dilemma (fuelled by lack of knowledge)..

I have a bunch or random samples, not really ones you would use to build instruments out of but more like sound snippets.. what I am trying to do is to figure out the best way to arrange them so I can acess them in a speedy fashion.
So far I can think of two ways to do it:

1. dump them in one patch, like drum kit. This options seems acceptable but I am wondering if this would allow me to still take one sample and play it across the keyboard, as well as use any filters and ADSR on it.

2. Save each sample as a patch. This will of course allow me to have cords and ADSR , as well as being able to play it across keyboard BUT it will be a case of scrolling through each patch.

Please help me with this, I realise I am a novice but even novices deserve help! :D

If this doesn't make any sense please ignore it!

Try setting each sample as a bank with c/c assignments and key maps as required.

Save the individual banks

You can then load up a pile of them

Then assign them to different midi channels so the c/c tweaks can be tailored to suit your needs on any sound, this will avoid the controller messages for one sound interfering with another.

Remember to record the c/c tweaks into your sequencer (I find keeping the first 4 bars empty for this purpose befor the tune kicks in is best) Then whenever you load the song the envelopes and filter settings are recalled. ;)

You can also record real time tweaks into the sequencer as the track plays by using an empty track that is assigned to the required midi channel thereby allowing you to overdub filter movement and so on

I can't find a faster work flow than this, but when you have a good library of tweak able banks you can work them together quite quickly once the hard work is done.

Hope this helps
