Round Robin

Postby reximus » Thu Jan 26, 2012 4:33 am

Hi all,

Can EOS 4.6.1 do Round-Robin somehow; each time you hit a note it alternates though a set of samples, not randomly.
I've been playing around with the AmpXFd Cord destination with no luck yet.

On another form someone suggested putting a PC in the midi chain to filter notes; I'm pretty sure I can do this with Reaper and a JS plug-in but I wanted to see if the EMU could some how pull it off.

It won't do round robins, but you could lay alternat drum sounds on different keys or perhaps do a similar job with links page assigning the sounds with velocity switching between sounds. I have not tried this but I think it would be possible, however it would take a lot of programming. You would be better off using a software device for this kind of flexibility.

Re filter notes, could you give an example of what you mean?

for Filtering I would use a Reaper JS plugin; looking at some other examples in reaper I should be able to capture the note value and also an iteration variable to keep count.
From there I could have it send a midi CC msg before the note on msg.
The midi CC i could cord to the AmpXfd destination there by allowing me to have 127 steps of samples I think..

I don't think the code is overly complex either and I'm going to give it a go this weekend; I'll let you know how it works.

Hello guys,

It's my first post here...
According to the EOS4.7 manual ( the file "EOS4.pdf" in the download section), "round robin" sample triggering is possible natively in the sampler using cords. The trick is to assign "XfdRnd" to "AmpXfd".
See page 321 in the manual, it's all here... 8-)

Regards,

Plezio.

Round Robin is not the same as Randomly Cross-Switch Between Voices as per the user guide.

Round Robin would imply triggering the samples in order in a circular fashion not randomly. For example, the articulations a bowed instrument, Bow up then Bow down don't happen randomly.

I don't think Round Robin can be done with just a keypress on the EMU.
You can manually add the articulations by assigning a Midi CC to the ampFxd and automate in your DAW.
I ended up building a SFZ and use the Alchemy player.. most of the samples I want to use for this purpose are 24-bit anyway so it made sense plus it does Round Robin and allows key triggering
