Postby cm_locuss » Sun May 23, 2004 12:02 am

Nice topic.

I choose which RFX setup I'm going to use by Preset (on CH1). I also always send to RFX via voice. Recently I've been sending all four sends in the voice to the RFX at 100% all the time and then using midi controller (modulated within the RFX effect) to change wet/dry level or effect output.

I've also been rethinking about how I want to use the RFX recenlty - I'm still in two minds whether to rip it out or not however I feel that with some clever routing templates already setup, the RFX could still be an invaluable tool with regards to sound creation and live use. Shame emu couldn't be arsed to program some nifty examples Preset and RFX setups for us to muck about with.

Rip it out if u suffer from "random panning" or "noiseburst"

If ur unsure of the panning issue, record keys/pad sound to a computer from a mixed stereo/mono bank and look at the results through a phase scope. I found my key sounds switching all over the place, a complete mess.

Oh well back to sampling off my external fx for doubling up inside presets.

ps. If u do hack out the rfx watch ur MASTER - transposition and key reference. Mine went all over the place and began to worry that all my old banks wouldn't play post RFX. :???:

 ;) :spliff:

Lol, I wish I was but this thread unfortunately shows I'm well aware of of it  ;). I've been in touch with Emu since 2002 about that one. I've got a decent workaround for panning bug now (using mono samples). I've only experienced the Burst bug once (talked about here)
I wont rip the RFX out because I've got an old e6400 which I can use if needed. My RFX warranty ran out whilst Emu were saying that they were aware of the problem and that the long awaited EOS 4.7 'may' cure the woes (that's why no Emulator X for me until the public have done the Beta testing for Emu ;)), so I'm trying to make the most of my RFX.

But anyway this should all have been posted in another topic really - back to this one

I had such a good session at the weekend mucking about with RFX and modulation that I'm going to spend the rest of the week doing the same and I'll post my results up here. I know it's been talked about before, but there was an idea floating about of having an area where we could post our favourite and most useful presets/setups/banks (banks without samples hardly take any space up) . This would be extra handy for RFX examples.

If program RFX Effect Sends by Voice (p16 of RFX manual) then you can have four sends per voice. Every one of these Effect Sends can be sent to any of the 12 RFX Busses or to 'Main' which leaves it dry.

In my example I was expreimenting with delays. Every voice in my preset was using all 4 Voice Sends at 100% all the time. I wanted this so that I could emulate the effect you get when playing 2 copies of the same vinyl 'back to back'. You know where you put the 2nd record 1 or 2 beats behind and cross fade between them. This requires the voice to be sending to the delay all the time. Having 4 sends meant I could emulate 4 different timing gaps. Basically it's an easy way to create fills on the fly - bit of a cheat really.
