controling the master filter with logic audio or externally

Postby somsay » Fri Nov 26, 2004 1:33 pm

hello,

I am modulating my basslines by putting 1 cord ex. ( mod wheel to filter freq = 100%) then I record with logic and I can edit my modulation's amounts with the new hyper edit...
now I want to control the master filter...where the filter page is...

anyone know what I mean?

the filter in the filter page when you dial the low pass from 57 hz to 2000 khz...therefore I want to control this parameter without the one that is in the cords page that is already making my bassline.

I hope there is a way without bouncing...

can anyone help?

thanks

I am not quite sure what you are asking. I must be tired.

nu skool bassline modulations

Postby somsay » Sat Dec 18, 2004 9:29 pm

hello,

yes im doing nu skool basslines..."wa wa waap-woo-woo-wooowoowo" etc...

i do this by using logic 7 express...
i have my reese sample.
in the cords page:
ModWl is the source and destination is Filfreq at 100%

now i modulate the reese using the modwheel.
now in logic I can edit this modulation, and then draw with the mouse--my own modulation shapes.
this is my bassline now...its sounds ok!

now i want to controll the modulation in the "Filter Page"
the Frequency:57Hz-20000Hz

right now i didnt not resample my bassline...I am trying not to--or maybe I should!(still a newbie)

but when i rotate the dial to change the frequency when eveything is playing live...it sounds sooo amazing!

like the old bad company sound!

right now for this track i manually controlled this filter with the rotary dial...

but is there a way to controll this dial using cc#?

remember my cords page is alreadying using the filter...

anyone know what i mean?

unfortunately, there is only one filter available for every voice (at least without the RFX - not too familiar with that). resampling/layering are your only options.

The filter that you are modulating with the cord,

MWhl -> Ffreq -> (-)100%

is the same filter that you find on the "Filter Page" ... or at least I think this is what you were asking...

yes this is what i am talking about but...try dialing the filter frequency in the filter page manually up and down while your bassline is playing.
I like this manual filtering effect but would like to automate it.
It sounds different than just resampling this bassline and turning off and on the cutoff of the frequency.

when u turn the wheel while the cords modulate
the filter cutoff, basically what u do is change the range that
the filter is allowed to use, not the actual cut off,
which is controlled by the cord. make sense? :spliff:
i want to automate that too but i guess u gotta record
your lick with manual manipulation of the wheel,
which is cool tho, u ll get a nice live effect, also
u can do diffrent takes for switch ups and edits n stuff.
