external synths "live" through emu

Postby misanthrop » Sun Nov 28, 2004 1:14 pm

tell me your experiences with sending a vst or a hardware synth through your emu without sampling it.

my experiences are that i have to trigger the signal via midi , but sometimes i get those clicks at the beginning... or i want to loop a certain
part in the arrangement and the trigger signal just starts before that loop .. so theres no trigger no signal .. blah ...

is there another way to work with that way of signal routing ?
DON?T tell me "just sample it" ;-)

There's a way of reducing pops and clicks. Go to the 'Voice Setup' screen and change 'Solo mode' to 'Melody (last)'. The clicks are most noticeable on bass heavy source material. This workaround only works for a succession of notes, as soon as there is a gap then the first note will click but the rest are smoothed out.

The other thing is to turn on latch in 'Voice Setup' and keep the input channel open. You can still use the filter however you lose control of the envelopes as the sound is not retriggered (unless you want to get really flash and set up a controller to retrigger the filters or LFO's). If you dont need to use the filters then you can keep the channel open by changing the Preset field to 'Sampling ADC' in the Multi screen.

I've not encountered this problem before. Sounds like a possible midi timing problem between your sequencer and the emu. Can you explain a bit more on the setup and what reuslt you're after.

cheerz for your quick and quality answer.

maybe my hangover hits my brain a bit harder this time ..
what i wanted to say was,
when you?re looping for example
bar 45 to 46 in a sequencer and
your trigger signal from the emu starts at bar 44 you can?t
listen to the signal cause there is no signal ..
hope that was a bit more precise ..
solution would be to use latch mode .. as you told me ..
