How do I make a lpf gradually close using the filter env?

Ok, so I've got this sample, it's like a big bang sound and I want to get the lpf to gradually close so that it ends up like a big rumble. How do I set up the filter env? I've been trying to get my head round these two stage envelopes but I just can't seem to make sense of them at all. I'm fine with normal adsr's but I can't get to grips with these badboys. I know I could do this with cc's but it's good to know innit.

As usual, any help would be cool as.

Makes sure high pass filter frequency is set high - maximum is 18000. Also make sure FEnv+ is set to FilFreq in the cords at +100%.

Now in Filter Envelope screen change the Atk2 level to -100 (it can go negative, something the amp envelope can't do). Now start increasing the rate of Atk2, the higher the rate the longer time it takes to work through the filter. If you hold the key down long enough the filter will snap back to the high value because Dcy1 and Dcy2 levels are at 99 and 100 - you can stop this by changing these values to -100. Repeat with the release levels if neceassry.

If you muck about with Atk1 level and rate you'll get a good idea of what is going on. Something worth noting is that Atk1, Dcy1 and Rls1 can be controlled in the cords sections where as the "2's" can't, I think.

Cheers mate, that helped. But wtf is up with those envelopes? I've been spending loads of time on them but I can't understand how they work at all. Is there a way to disengage the second stage and use them more normally?

I dont know how to disengage them. Just that the as long as the rates of the "2's" are set to 0 and the level of the "2's" is the same as the "1's" then the 2nd parts will have no effect.

Dont you just love it when 'feature' becomes a pain ;)

Yeah mate, I guess you just have to keep working at it until it becomes an advantage. Nice one for clearing some of it up for me though.

Filter screen:
6-Pole LPF set to 20KHz (open all the way)

Cords screen:
FEnv+ Ffreq -100%

Trigger the sound. The filter should now sound completely closed.

Filter Envelope screen:
Roll out the rate of Attack 2 (don't change any of the level/amount values) until you can hear the filter close.

Now change the level/amount value of decay1 to 0. Leave decay 2 at +100. Roll out the rate of decay1&2 to the same value as attack 2. You should now see a triangle wave like formation on the env. It should sound like a wah wah effect. This is just the beginning. These envelopes are extremely powerful and you can get all sorts of warbled sounds when using a lpf.

Don't forget to play with the releases and have fun!
