Re SCSI: can you turn off the pc first?

I think I remember reading somewhere that you need to turn the sampler on first - makes sense, you want the PC to pick up the sampler when it boots.

But are there any "rules" about shutting down?  Would turning the PC off first be bad?  no need to talk about hot swapping, I know about the danger of that. cheers!
