Hi... since nobody answered my first question... here's another stupid question. I'm going to replace the internal scsi drive with a 9gb seagate cheetah. The original 540mb scsi drive is in there. Do I need to modify the power cable when installing the new scsi drive? Or is it ready to go without modification, just drop it in and format it?

I read about modifying the power cable when installing an IDE drive, but I was wondering since there is a scsi drive in there already, can I just put this new one in without modification?

Just drop it in. As long as you use the original EMU power cable that is already there you'll be fine.

I bought the EMU hard-disk kit because i wanted to add another hard disk. However there is only one IDE and one SCSI slot. I had a silent IDE drive so i ended up just replacing the old one. For such a swith you don't need the EMU kit. Same for SCSI i would figure.

Thanks for the response. I installed the drive, and the screen is just blank. Nothing happens. It was working fine before, but the drive was about to die. This is an e4k with eos 3.00b.

I just want a working hard drive! What do I do? Should I get an IDE, and make my own cable?

I think one of your problems could be the EOS 3.00!!!

if i remember correctly, the EOS 3.00 had a size limitation for hard drives. something about 4GB.

if you want larger harddrives, you must go to 4.02 or higher.

but i think you need more flash ram for your E4k for installing EOS higher than 3.00.

another problem could be the jumpersettings on your new hard drive!

Hmm, found some details about EOS 2.5

it seemed to be, that 2.5 supports harddrives with a maximum size of 9 GB!

So, you must have another problem with your harddrive.

do you have the possibillity to test another (less than 9GB) harddrive?

there you can also find scsi harddrives for EOS 3.00 or higher.

Thanks... I think the drive may have zapped my system flash ram. I put the original drive back in, and it's doing the same thing. The screen is blank, and all of the LCDs are lit. I'm going to try to find a friend with a PC to make me a floppy with EOS 3.00b on it and try to reload the system software. I don't know what happened, but it looks bad. I really want to start playing this keyboard! Now I have to find another compatible drive. It's hard to find these old 50 pin 9gb SCSI!

Anyone have a quiet 9gb scsi drive that they use internally with an e4k or e-synth? I don't know which one to buy.

Does the synth work when you disconnect the power from the drive? The new hard drive might have fried your power supply by drawing too much current.

The synth does not work when the drive is disconnected, or the old drive is plugged in. I haven't been able to try to reload the system software yet because I don't know anyone with a PC and a floppy drive(!) But I'm working on it.

I hope the power supply is not fried. The LEDs are coming on and the screen lights up, it just doesn't say anything.

Can anyone give me the specific name, and model scsi drive that is proven to work inside an E4K? I'm still on EOS 3.00b
