Hi everyone,
Here's an update of my SCSI situation.
I found this information:
"The Adaptec PowerDomain 29160N (APD-29160N), PowerDomain 29160 (APD-29160) and PowerDomain 39160 (APD-39160) are Universally keyed and will fit into either 5 V or 3.3 V PCI slots, so these cards will fit into PCI or PCI-X slot but have only been tested minimally in the Power Mac G5 and not at all in the Xserve G5. No new issues have been seen with the Power Mac G5."

I bought the 29160N, put it into the Mac G5 and then ran a sample transfer via Peak. The answer to my SCSI communication problems were due to the order I switched on my Mac and Sampler. It needs to be Sampler first, then Mac, then external hard drives and cdrom. I then mount everything in the sampler. Works a treat and I'm very impressed. I've been using this set-up now for months without there every being any problems.
You can find the card cheap on ebay. I've seen it under ?10.
