Samples playing at wrong pitch in sample manage mode?

Postby rcl » Wed Sep 13, 2006 12:33 am

I have had this problem for a while and don't know how to fix it.. I record a sample on to the emu, and I say that it is C3 as orig. Now, in sample manage mode when I hit C3 on my midi keyboard (or audition button, which is tuned to that..), it plays way way too slow. I go in to 'place' and its always at the wrong place. For instance, Low: C1 Orig: G1 High: B1 .. so I change those values, make them all C3. While doing so, the sample plays and is fine.. now I say 'Place' to place it there. I get 'Overlaps existing voices in group, continue?' I say OK.

Now if I go right back in to 'Place', those old values are there!!! And if I audition from the sample manage screen with the sample on screen, its back to playing too slow! UGH ..but if I go over to Preset Manage and audition, I hear the sample played at the perfectly right pitch.

I think i get it, when I do "place" what I'm actually doing is placing the sample in to the preset. That's fine and good -- but now how can I adjust this problem of the original sample, in sample mode, not playing at the right pitch when I hit that 'right' key?

Sorry to be so wordy but this is EXTREMELY confusing to me. Thanks lots to anyone who can lend a hand..

It always plays way to slow in the sample menu, unless you change the sample note in the actual options of new sample ie when you record in the menu with input, gain, and force sample etc
If you do this I think it will be sweet, otherwise don't worry as when you play the preset it will be at right pitch just not on sample menu. When you sequence emu plays preset pitch not sample pitch(not corret terms but close enough). The reasi=on you get the overlap is that you have already placed the sampl,e and are placing it again over the existing zone. Just delete the preset and start again.
Hope this helps.

This might help you out... You don't have to place a sample. I actually never place samples in a preset or otherwise.

All I do is go into the sample manage screen. Set the first voice to whatever sample I want, then set the origin and the low and high bit. Then, if I want more voices... I copy the first voice and change what is needed.

That's what I do when it comes to creating a bank or a preset.

I am not quite sure what you have going on with the pitch playing so slow in the sample manage mode.. unless it has to do with the place function defaulting the origin to C4 which is typical. So when you play C3 or have set the audition to the note C3... it plays an octave below.. Not sure though.
