rfx trouble

Postby pstnotpd » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:05 pm

Hi there,

I've searched around a while about this one, but it's not one of the usual burst or random panning bugs I think.

When I install the RFX and load up a piano type sound, it fails to trigger every second note or so. However, if I load up a synth pad it does trigger correctly.

When I load up one of the samples of the piano sound together with a sample from the synth pad and combine them in a preset, the pad sample works fine and the piano sample fails again. So there must be something in the sample which seems to trigger this behaviour. I also noticed that de default panning seems to be way off centre.

When I take out the RFX everything is back to normal.

The RFX effects themselves seem to work and all tests on the RFX return ok.

Anybody got a clue? I took out the RFX as it is basically useless like this...
Tried it on another ultra and it behaved the same. I fear my particular RFX is a dud....

Cheers,
Patrick

I would recheck the routing of the piano (which you've prolly already done 50000000 times) I would also check to see how the if any of the presets are panned hard right or left (which could be the issue). Failing this I would check the cord structure to see if there is anything in the cords panning the piano every other note.

Is it just this piano preset or any piano preset?

I would say that the RFX is OK. Incidentally, I have never had an issue with my 2 RFX's. the routing is pretty complex though.

It's any piano type sound, or hard base or what have you.

They are presets from an official EMU cd rom, but when I load in 1 single sample of that particular preset in an fresh preset it reacts the same. I.e. on the sample itself it fails to trigger. No weird routings as far as I know.

I first thought is was a midi issue, but then it wouldn't react on the more mellow pad samples. I also disconnected everything possible (extra RAM, HD) to check if it's a power issue, but none of it helps. I'm stumped....

I also suspected a voice allocation issue, but then I can't figure out why it doesn't happen on the synth pad. It seems like it's related to the output volume of the sample itself.

Well, the RFX is definitely bust.
After I ran it clean through my studio mixer I noticed one of main outputs was completely dead, both on the headphones and jacks. Removing the RFX cleared everything up.
Ah well, what can you do.....
