Emu samler with apple mac/ logic 9

Postby jamie8286 » Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:58 am

Hey guys i was having a mess around with my E4XT-ultra the other day after some time of little use and realized that really apart from the z plane filters the reason i bought it theres not much else i can do with it. It spends a lot of time turned off. I think this is a lot to do with hard to transfer audio to and from my mac ( i was going to mod it with the 2.5 drive caddy but never got round to it) and i can do most of what i need to in logic. This is a shame because i think its a good bit of kit and would really like to start using it more.

I just wanted to here from any of you guys with a similar setup what you where using it for.

cheers
E4XT ULTRA :)

Richness of sound vs wimpy D-A converters on most PC/Mac soundcards, even the good ones. I used an M-Audio FW410 - its great, but still clinical sounding by comparison.

Nice bottom end, nice real time control of effects without loading up the Mac/PC.

Its a trade off - ease of use vs sound vs quirks and the various filters which are somewhat unique sounding on the Ultras vs stock software digital filters in varioys progs. Logic is nice, EXS24 is very nice, but the Ultras still have a sonic edge in my view and a very warm sound.

Same reason I won't replace my analog synths with plugins - just the quirkiness of the synths and warmth - despite the noise floors - makes it real for me.

Yep...i compared my e64k ultra with emulator x software and despite the fact that software is easier to use, sound is what is counting for me. On hardware sound is a bit different and filters are way different sounding then in software VSTi. i mean i know that software is also in my e64k ultra but it is better sounding for some reason. Depending on what you want decide is it better to use software or hw.
