EMU nomenclature

Postby ozy » Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:46 pm

Hi.

I just got my E 4X Turbo, and I am trying to figure out the expansion-upgrading possibilities.

I browsed the forum but I am a bit confused about the product names, which are sometimes needed for identifying the correct manuals and drivers.

And I couldn't find a product comparison table.

I reckon/ask the following (pls correct me if I am wrong):

E4 is the base model

E4 X means = ?

E4 X turbo means = ?

is E4XT the same as E4 X turbo ? I.e.: does "XT" mean "X turbo", or not?

Why are some E4 qualified as "E4 Ultra?" (with no reference to "X" or "Turbo" or "XT")?

Is "Ultra" a specific separate update?

My E4 currently runs OS 3.0, is upgraded to 128 mbyte RAM, and contains a 9 giga HD.

I'd like to keep the RAM, upgrade to 4.7 OS, expand the disk (possibily: large 80giga physical disk, in several smaller partitions).

What will I get then? I mean: what will be the name of such an upgraded E4 X Turbo?

MIRACLE

Non ultras won't run 4.7 as they do not have a coldfire processor.

So what's the best OS I can get on a E4X ?

How much on board Flash RAM do you have?

Before upgrading a sampler of the Classic line you have to check the FLASH RAM size.
If it is equipped with 1MB CPU Flash RAM - the highest installable EOS version is 3.00.
If it is equipped with 2MB CPU Flash RAM - the highest installable EOS version is 4.61.

All Ultra samplers are equipped with 4MB FLASH RAM and came with EOS 4.01a - you can upgrade to 4.61 or 4.70beta.

How can I state that?

I bought the E4X turbo at a garage sale. What's the procedure for flash-RAM checking?

the only features I could measure are:

128 Mb ram
128 voices poly
digital out exp
9 giga hd
eos 3.0b

bof.

Dumped the E4Xturbo,

got me a 5000 ultra.

Will lose just polyphony (64 for 128), will gain 4.61 and 4.7 software features, add disk capacity, get same ram.

Should have done better research before buying.

Thank God for fire sales though: E4xt come and gone for 300 bucks, e5000 got for 200...

Looks like it's a buyer's market.

BTW: a model comparison table would be nice. Did anybody ever compile it?

The E4X is still a great sampler though.

So it processes a little slower.

Still finding things out about mine after nearly 15 years of ownership.
