Cheers Chris. What makes an e4K a turbo model? I was told mine was a turbo because it has 128 voices and 128 meg memory. It also has spdif, midi channel option and the stereo effects.
Just need those upgraded eproms :-)
All the very best.

Very strange....

Normally every e4K Turbo has 128 voices and the 2MB Flash!

But perhaps your e4K got an voice upgrade in the past, so the previous owner thought it is a Turbo!

Model 6900 - 64 voices, 2MB CPU Ram, 1MB FLash Ram."e4K"
Model 6902 - 128 Voices, 4MB CPU Ram, 2MB Flash Ram. "e4K Turbo"

Often previous owner make some hybrid e4K! And after some upgrades they call it "Turbo"

In your case, there would be only the voice upgrade, but no upgrade with the 6816 Option (4Mb CPU Ram and 2MB Flash Ram)

Here a link (please look the pictures):

http://www.ebay.de/itm/E-mu-Systems-Emu ... 4aaf4630d6

And this isn´t a Turbo Model too! Because there is no voice upgrade! Only the 6816 Option Upgrade!
But I know, that the previous owner, had sell this e4K on Ebay, as a "Turbo"

Real strange.......and not so easy to explain 8-)

Haha. I was looking at that one earlier. Was thinking of buying it before I saw it was only 64 voice :-)
Mine is model number 6901 according to the E-Mu label on the bottom.

Hi!

My E-Synths Dance has the Model number 6905.

But just for information. It is easy to change the voice board! If you find an e4K with an upgraded CPU Flash, but only with 64 Voices, you can change it with your 128 Voiceboard.

Looks like the 6901 models were originally supplied then fully loaded with 128 outputs on their mainboard. So, it looks like mine is all original. Don't know if that makes it a turbo or not now. If it is a turbo model though, that would mean that not all turbos came with 2meg of CPU memory.
Yes, an upgraded 64 voice board could easily be swapped but if I am doing that, I might as well just find an upgraded 128 voice board :-) Can the e-synth boards be installed into an e4k too? I think all of these came with 4.10 installed. Are all e-synth's 64 voice only (even with the sound rom disabled)?
Looks like I will end up with a studio full of E4's at this rate haha.
All the very best.

Hello!

The E-Synths Motherboard of the Keyboardversion is identical to the normal e4k Motherboard!

64 voices and only 1MB Flash Ram.

Normally all Turbo Models have a little "Turbo" Sticker under the "e4K" letters.

But we don´t know if this really every time happened, when a Turbo leaves the company

The E-Synths came first with EOS 2.8!

I think you write somthing wrong in your last posting!

"Are all e-synth's 64 voice only (even with the sound rom disabled)?"

Number of Voices has nothing to do with the ROM boards!

Perhaps you mean 64MB Ram with Rom board and 128MB with disabled Rom baord.

Thanks Chris. I am learning fast. The info is really appreciated. I had just read somewhere on the net that all e-synths could be easily upgraded to the latest OS. Obviously that was wrong.
Yes, I was wrong about the 128 voice thing. Of course, it is the memory that gets halved.
Is it at all possible then to save the sound rom presets including the samples to the hard disk and then disable the sound rom to get 128 meg again?
All the very best.

Ok, here we go:

On the Rom boards there are only "samples" or as a better description "raw sample mappings"

In the Flash Ram of the Emu sampler are the Presets with all their keyboardmapping and synthesizer parameters!

And it is not possible to save the Presets WITH the samples on a Hard Disk. Because the Samples are stored in the Rom! And like any other "rompler" in the world (except Kurzweil 2000,2600....) you can´t get the samples outside the ROM!!!

You can load the hole Rom Board into the RAM of your Sampler, and you can save it your Harddisk. But without the PRESET informations!

Think about it! If E-mu System had done it, as you would like it, only a few ROM BOARDS were sold.....

Even with a Flash ROM Board, you can´t really get in touch with the samples and the Presets. The only way is to overwrite the Flash Rom Board with other samples.

If you have the EOS 4.0 Manual, you can read something about it, at page 39!

And by the way, a lot of people who wants to sell their samplers on ebay, write/wrote in their auction, that they have all the Rom Board Presets from the Proteus2000 line.
But in this case, they have only the raw samples/mapping and NOT the real PRESETS like in the Proteus Rompler!

And you can do the same, as described above. But without the Preset Parameters......

Puuh..... difficult to explain

Hope that helps!

Yes, I see what you mean. If the OS allowed you to take the samples and presets to the hard disk, people would have just burned the bank to CD or DVD.
Thanks for the reply and all your help :-)

Thanks for the offer. I am only interested now in fully upgraded, fully specced E4K's or, if I was to replace my e-synth rack, it would only be with a fully loaded E4XT Ultra.
All the very best.
