CD-ROM Speed...

Postby razmo » Wed Jan 07, 2004 12:19 pm

Hi All! :O)

I was wondering, how fast a CD-ROM will run with the EOS?
I have an older 8x SCSI drive, but are thinking, that maybe a faster drive would be a good thing, but how fast can the EOS read from CD-ROM? anybody who knows, and have tried this?

Not sure on this one at all, seems a good question. 8 speed is alright for me, I've got a harddrive and when I can I just copy the entire CD to it and then it's always in the sampler. Which I have to say I love after using the s2000 for years loading samples by floppy :loveit:

i own a glyph cd rom. i think it is a 32 speed and it works. i know the thing really speeds up when i turn it on but i am not really sure. all i know is the thing was expensive. two hundred dollars i think... but it works. and man, the thing is built like a tank. it is so heavy. the weird thing i found out is, even though i have it daisied chained with my zip and emu, i can still access my zip with my emu with out the drive being turned on, even though it is inbetween the two. I always would have though i would have to turn on everything....

i am assuming that it has a plextor cdrom in it... glyph typically uses those for the drives. would like to get a back system from them... but 1000 dollars seems a bit much for two hard drives, tape back up and a burner...

i think you are pretty safe getting whatever speed... he he... if you can find a scsi cdrom, that is. you just can't find anything at the electonic/computer stores anymore... like best buy or whatever.

so aggravating.
