I just got a plain ADAT from E-mu, no RFX. They didn't have a DWAM board, and I was worried that the Creamware card wouldn't sync without Word Clock. Creamware doesn't sync with everything. The sampler is an E-6400 Ultra.
At first I got clicks, then found that if I made the Creamware card slave and put the sampler on internal clock, that worked, but wasn't convenient. The way I like it, is to have the Creamware card as master, and use both the in and out sampler ADAT's cabled to the card.
Set the Emu sampler's clock-in to ADAT ( under Master, setup, in/out, clock-in ). Then it syncs, and I can set the card as master using either ADAT or Word Clock as sync ( I have a Creamware Sync Plate and a Kurzweil DMTi ).
I think the Emu manual just says the ADAT-in is for sampling, but apparently that's where it receives a master clock signal. Seems obvious, but I haven't had to do that before.
