emusonacid! legacy

To all those running g5 setups... what scsi card works in a g5? Recently bought some adaptec thing and it didn't fit into the slot. Hit me with any reccomendations.

adaptec 29160 & 29160N series are both g5 compatible (just confirmed w/ the adaptec sales rep a week ago)

I ordered the Ratco U2SCX Scsi to usb converter and im running a dual 2.0 G5 with 10.3.5.
I cant get the thing to work tho, i can use the Utility it comes with but i cant get peak 4.0 or Spark 2.8 to recognize my emu platinum. Is there something im missing or should i return this thing and get a pci card?

SCSI doesn't work in Spark when u have Panther 10.3 nor does Peak version 4 !!!

U need peak 4.1.1

ps. I've heard on an osx app which can send stuff up over scsi to your sampler, but i've not tried it yet (cos i don't receive my mac for a few more weeks ) - here's its homepage on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/esmdi/

anyone definitely got this working then? I've been looking at similar solutions using the Adaptec USB2Xchange adapter (except adaptec don't seem very forward with osx support) and a firewire to scsi solution from Belkin that might do the job - http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductP ... _Id=100393

If I can get definite answers from their pre-sales people about support for either of these under osx for smdi then i'll post it.

there's also a pci card that works under osx from Atto that I read about somewhere - http://www.attotech.com/epcipsc.html - they list osx support, but it looks like a 5v card so wouldn't work in a g5...

personally I'd prefer a non-pci solution so I don't have to use up one of the slots in the g5 (which is due to have a 6800 ddl in there, covering up one of the slots already)

Can't remember where i posted it but i mentioned previously that Adaptec recently announced they were no longer supporting Mac OS. Id rather not put my money into a product that officially has no support.

Be aware that all the USB and FW to SCSI adapters only support ONE Device. For some ppl this may be fine but it is not suitable for those of use external SCSI hard drives an CD Rom's on the same chain as the EMU.

yeah, best look elsewhere than Adaptec if possible.

i'd noticed the one device limitation which might be fine for my usage. I also have a scsi cd-rom and zip drive for it, but don't really need the cd-rom, and i'd probably only use the zip for backups (which i can do when it's not connected to the computer). if you have a scsi drive inside the emu does that appear on the computer's scsi bus, or does the emu manage 2 buses? s'pose it'd be best to stick with ide internally either way...

so, if i were to buy one of the usb/fw adapters, and the adapter/lead to make sure the scsi connectors line up, is that it? or is there anything else i would need?

is it possible to still get ide kits for a 6400 ultra? i've got an old 18gig ibm ide drive that would probably be perfect for it...

thanks for the tips I'll make a note and keep them in mind when my Mac finally arrives (still 4 weeks away ).

unfortunately, I'm in the UK but i reckon tracking down the right scsi adapter should be fairly easy.

anyone know of any UK suppliers for the ide kit? if not i'll try the hack i saw mentioned in another thread...
