I have a racked e6400 CLASSIC, 128 voices, running EOS 4.62, 128 mb ram, 2gb internal scsi HD.

It was working great last time I used it, but today (hours before load in for a gig no less) when I boot it up I get the following:

- ALL LED's and the screen come full on and stay on. Screen shows nothing, just lit up.

- I can hear the HD power up and chatter a little bit like it's trying to mount, then nothing. Still spinning, but no further activity.

- Doesn't respond at all to any button presses.

I've rebooted it several times now, no change.

I'm going to pull it from the rack, crack open the case, ground myself out, and snug everything up inside (ram, proc, connectors, etc). If that doesn't work.. I dunno what to do from there.

Suggestions? Please help, I have a gig in 4 hours! =[

I got it.

What had happened is my internal hard drive had come loose; I found two loose connectors and the ram was sitting a little funny.

Solution: Grounded myself out, snugged everything up. Tested, works.

Reason the HD had come loose is that apparently those little spikey washers on HD screws aren't enough to hold it in place, they seemed snug, but slipped out with a single load-in/-out cycle, leaving the SCSI drive free to slam around inside the case. It would seem that the numb-nuts that did the drive install (that would be me) didn't test the mount well enough before calling it good.

Solution: Cannibalized black plastic rack screw washers, used them to fully fill the space and secure the drive.

I'm lucky it didn't crack the board or anything.

So let my stupid mistake serve as your lesson; Mount those suckers tight, and you'll probably need an additional washer to keep it in place so nab a couple of those black plastic washers from your rack screws.

I think your HDD screws are just too long... I didn't have to use any washers to keep the HDD tight in my Emu.

huh... I was having the same thing happen... to me it seemed like the power cable or ide cable was not 100 percent in place and when i pulled it out and plugged it back in it was fine.

scratch that... it's been doing it again...

Does anyone know of any possible causes for this? I wonder if maybe my flash is bad, or the power supply's starting to kick the bucket? The weirdest part of all is it does it at random, sometimes right at boot up, sometimes in the middle of editing, sometimes when it's just been sitting for a while.... any ideas or insight might help prevent me from turning my 6400 into a steel frisbee...

Hi,

The only time I've seen the display that you've describe, was when I didn't connect my hard drive properly.

Its worthing checking out the power rating of your drive.

The E-MU can only sustain an internal max of 1.7 Amps per 12V. Anything larger will eventually wear out the power supply unit.

been having the exact same dilemma here. i assume its a power issue, because as i remove the additions, it works again...sometimes.

Same thing happened to me man. I turn it on and what you just described is happening to mine with the exception that the front led dosen't light up.

I took all the peripherals out, HD, ADAT, DWAM, RFX-32 and it wound up working fine. I think the power supplies just do not provide enough power to run all the peripherals and F-ing E-MU has left their original long term customers hosed by no longer supporting any of their hardware. I'm pretty sure if you take your peripherals out, it will run fine. At least give it a try.

tried to get in contact with the folks at eprelectronics. either they are very busy or their customer service just sucks ass. anyone have any other reccomendations?


p.s. will strip mine down tonight. hope it comes back.

I think it's that they suck ass. I've sent them several emails about finding parts for mine and they've never emailed back.

I've had OK luck with them, picked up some rack ears (when they had them) and a couple sound ROM's... you definately have to be wiling to follow up.
