Any problems with your Ultra sampler should be reported here, hopefully someone might know what's wrong.

problems loading .wav files from floppy...

Postby jbuonacc » Sat May 06, 2006 11:41 am

hmmm, looks like my e4X (original) is having trouble loading from the floppy drive. here's what i've tried...

- loaded three folders of drum samples onto a floppy. seems the e-mu wouldn't recognize the folders(?).
- moved the samples out of the folders, deleted the empty folders. when going to 'browse sample', the e-mu only sees the first .wav file. when in 'browse bank', all the .wavs show up for some reason. when trying to load either the 'sample' or 'bank' .wav the e-mu starts loading but doesn't go beyond the 0% mark. it just sits there with the disk light on.

any ideas? i'm not looking to go the scsi route really, possibly a zip drive if it'd work for me. generally my samples are pretty small, so i think i could get by with a floppy transfer (if i can get it working) or even midi sample dump standard. any freeware apps out there that can send samples over midi?

Dont ask me where I got this from, but try Browse and then choose Seqences.

no luck with that, it just says 'no sequences in bank'. i did notice that loading the .wav got to about 1% after half an hour or so. i may have found a couple programs to send .wavs via midi, i'll see if that helps at all. looks like the C6 software that is made for the Elektron MachineDrum might even work(?).

also, i'm on an e4x (original) running EOS 4.10 if it helps to know. am i right in thinking that 4.10 can't load .wavs from scsi CD-ROM?

yes, you are right, you can only load .wav's via the floppy. By the way, are you sure you can load .wav's via floppy? I want to say I thought only the Ultra's could do that, but I could be wrong.

There definitely was an OS update for the Classic EIV range that would allow wav imports by floppy although I can't remember which version, anyone?

My classic with eos 4.62 take wav's without problem. It do take ages though.

UPDATE:

i tried playing with C6 from Elektron again, and got it working pretty well. if i load one sample at a time it just keeps writing over the first slot, but if i load a bunch of samples into the software and then do a batch load it works great. they all load into the E-mu in the order that i set up. i'd recommend this to anyone looking for another way to get samples into your E-mu but don't have a scsi card, etc. it's a bit slow, but not too bad for drum samples or other short sounds. not sure yet how long loops, etc would take.

i guess i answered my own question, thanks again though. just for laughs i tried loading again from floppy. no joke, it took 45 minutes to get to 4% loading an 808 cowbell. that just doesn't seem right...

I left my e-synth on for a half a day to get a 1.2 mb sample transfered from floppy... Would you give us a link to that software of yours? Seems like an interesting way of getting my samples to the e-synth.
