upgrading OS via e-loader - is it impossible?

Postby db » Sat Sep 06, 2003 10:11 am

OK, so i bought an e4xt ultra with the rfx card inside. very nice! but its running OS 4.5, and i'd really like to upgrade to OS 4.6 or 4.7. i borrowed a friend's computer with a floppy to try and upgrade that way, but the OS was too big for the floppy! Eventually found E-loader, got the 4.7 .dll from this site (thank you whoever that was), followed the steps in the e-loader manual, but no joy. you're supposed to turn on the emu while holding enter to initiate the download from e-loader, but the emu just freezes if you do that. has anybody successfully upgraded this way???! if not, would anybody take my grandmother in exchange for an upgrade floppy???

E-Loader

Postby macallf » Sat Sep 06, 2003 2:18 pm

I have updated my EOS5000 with both floppy and e-loader with no problems. The floppy needs to be 1.44Mb and it fits perfectly. Perhaps the floppy disc was not formatted to 1.44Mb!

Stupid question, but you did run the program to create a disk image and not try to copy it to a floppy? (EOS_V461.EXE or EOS470.EXE)

de-loader

Postby db » Sat Sep 06, 2003 5:55 pm

thanks for yr response. this morning I got the right size floppies and tried again, successfully expanded the .exe onto the disk, loaded it into the emu and turned on. the emu just sits there and doesn't even load anything. Tried with the 4.6.1 and the 4.7 from this site and the one from emu's site with the same result.

As for e-loader, i set up the cables to get bi-directional midi, it seemed to be working fine - except that the emu didn't show up when i did a scan, which it is supposed to. But the midi monitor showed that it was connected right. Loaded the .dll into the program, turned on the sampler while holding 'enter' and.... nothing. just the same blank screen as with the floppy. tried again about 20 times but no joy. Any tips for e-loader?

Tried the e-loader again on my E5000, A screen asking if you want to load via MIDI comes up. It sounds as though you may have a problem with your E4!!
(With a floppy inserted into the drive at start up with an EOS operating system on it it will also ask if you wish to upgrade your operating system.)

Hey, I found out what was wrong!! the screen wasn't blank on startup, it was asking me if I wanted to upgrade the operating system, but the text was so light that I couldn't see it unless i stuck my head right up against the screen, and even then it was difficult to read it.... so now i am running 4.6.1!!!! thanks for your help anyways.
