I think you're aware of the problems E4 Ultra users are experiencing with their precious RFX-32 cards in conjunction with EOS 4.7 OS. Don't get me wrong, this PM is absolutely not about insulting any of EMU's staff (or Creative's) for not addressing this problem appropriately. We all know that support for legacy products will be dropped somehow sometime, but there're still many producers loving their old gear, even in times of software taking over. There's a (very) long thread over at...

... and it has been discussed for three years now. I'd like to use this "anniversary" to contact EMU again. I know that the official support will not be changing this sad situation but I'm really curious if there actually is a chance at all to get it done inofficially. You know, many of the users at emusonacid.co.uk support the idea of donating money (idea: 50$ each) to an unofficial project - presumably run by the old EOS team - to solve the existing issues (panning, outburts, etc). The questions I have are:

- Do you think it's possible to reactivate one or more of the old geniuses who were coding EOS when some amount of money could be raised?
- Do you know any of those guys and are you able to forward this PM to them?
- Do you think it's technically possible to fix the issues? This means are all the tools required to do so still available?

I'm really looking forward to receiving your reply!

Good on ya for your efforts para. However, E-MU/Creative don't give two fucks about their legacy hardware users. They have completely removed any reference to their hardware samplers from their support website. I predict the standard "thank you for your letter, but it's not gonna happen" response from them.

Well, that's not the point here. I just wanna know if it is possible at all and not whether E-MU is gonna do it officially...

This is about the technical requirements and the guys from the old EOS team. If there's no chance of contacting and motivating them or if there's no way to access the EOS sources and development environment then we're screwed anyway - but I'd like to know that. That would at least give us a definitive answer and our "quest for a cure" would finally get to an end, although a sad one :roll:

Right now there's still a slight chance that the guys might be motivated enough to fix their baby, in particular when we're going to raise some money for that job. It's worth a try IMHO and many users here are willing to support that project.

Unfortunately when I called E-MU support last they said that they no longer support their hardware units and basically can give you a list of other resources to contact......

Call their California office though. It couldn't hurt to keep badgering them on the phone until maybe they can offer some sort of useful resource. I'm sure if people flooded their phonelines maybe there'd be at least a chance of some sort of effort made on their part. I got the number if anyone needs it....

I've gotten one of the same guys on the phone when calling for my soundcard that used to help me answer my hardware questions. I know some if not all of those guys still work in the phone support department. Can't remember his name... but he's answered 3 out of 4 times I've called since getting my soundcard...

Give it a shot, it definitely couldn't hurt. I think if a critical mass of people kept calling maybe they could at least get some answers.....

As you note there is no way we can do anything here in an official capacity but I did pass it on.

That's why i I said might think about. Of course I agree with you, that it should be kept open until em bugs are fixed. But I can think of only two ways this could be accomplished - official support (which is officially ruled out) and unofficial support. So, apart from discussing the bugs, this thread is likely to come to an end when the unofficial way (getting the former E-MU staff back on the journey) is also leading to a dead-end. This would at least clearify the situation once and for all...
