help! SMDI via Sound Forge XP 4.5 / Win98SE

Postby drdel » Sat Mar 10, 2012 4:45 pm

Hello,

yesterday I saw a related communication of some time ago - hope you can help me. Note I am posting this here anew so we can treat the topic as a new thread.

I have an E 6400 Ultra connected via SCSI to my PC with Adaptec SCSI card and under Win 98 SE.

I have been using Wavelab v3.04G for long, on this and also on a previous PC (died meanwhile), I could manage SMDI sample transfers in both directions on the older machine but not on the new PC.

My new PC can connect with the sampler, e.g. using the "Xtrakk" freeware program, I can load samples onto my sampler. But Wavelab won't do it but breaks down in all cases.

I now bought a Sound Forge XP 4.5 and just loaded it onto the new PC... how can I check if it recognizes the SCSI card and how can I install the sampler? And how do I manage the sample transfer back and forth? No explanations in the manual, and apparently no button on the menu either ...??

System:
PC, Windows 98 SE
Sound Forge XP 4.5
(respectively, Wavelab 3.04G / out of order re. SMDI)
Adaptec AIC-7850 (alternatively: I have an AHA-1542CF also available, not tested yet)
SCSI cable connects to E-mu E6400 Ultra

Many thanks!

P.S.

just checked the AHA-1542CF card - - this card has different dimensions and requires a much longer slot, too ... seems I cannot insert it right away. Is there any adapters around, would you know? Many thanks!! Best wishes, drdel ;)

Hi,

I faced the same SMDI trouble with my PC and WaveLab: every time I tried to access the sample transfer, WaveLab crashed immediately... Then I discovered that if I disconnect the SATA cables from the SATA drivers inside my PC (my system drive is IDE! ), eveything works perfectly... Unfortunately, it is not too practical to disconnect the SATA cables every time I need to use SMDI...

As for the SoundForge, I do not know the program, but it should support the SMDI as well... I have found this:

Choose Sampler from the Tools menu to display the Sampler dialog.

Click the Configure button to display the Sampler Configuration dialog.

From the Sampler drop-down list, choose the sampler to which you wish to send and receive samples.

Sound Forge Pro idea Using Sound Forge with a SamplerIf your sampler is not listed here, choose SMDI or SDS capable sampler.

More details you can find here:
