I have recently been thinking how to make this forum even better and feel a thread were we share our samples, presets and banks would be a good thing.
So here it is!
Please feel free to post creations for others to expand their libraries and knowledge of cord creations.
I will make regular contributions and hope you all pitch in by adding to the uploads and leaving comments/questions about users creations.

EVERYONE NEEDS A 303

To start you off here is a bank of samples taken from the legendary Roland TB303

This bank contains 17 multi-sampled sets of the silver squelch box recorded at various settings.

This bank of 80 samples started out at about 90MB, but all samples have been converted to the lowest possible sample rate without effecting the quality to reduce the file size and increase keyboard playback range.

File size has also been kept down by editing the sample length to a minimum. The samples have all the characteristic filter cutoff/res movement at the front end but then loop to a tone that can be further filtered by the E-mu.

To get the slide I have set the finger glide with controllable rate on controller H.

I have also duplicated these presets and set them up as polysynths, there are also four stacked detuned sets.

If you study the cord C/C routing you will also find that controller D has been patched to filter envelope amount (why haven't I thought of this before) It will be fairly obvious to use this if you have some experience of subtractive synthesis, if not try tweaking it in combination with filter cutoff and filter envelope and you will soon see how it effects the cutoff shape/depth

P000 - P016 = MONOPHONIC TB303 SYNTHS
P017 - P033 = POLYPHONIC TB303 SYNTHS
P034 - P037 = POLYPHONIC TB303 SYNTHS (STACKED AND DETUNED)

All synths presets have been mapped to controllers as follows

Controller A - Sample Start(0 = Start - 127 = End)
Controller B - Filter Freq (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller C - Filter Res (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller D – Filter Envelope Amount (0 = Min – 127 = Max)
Controller E - Filter Envelope Attack (0 = Fast – 127 = Slow)
Controller F - Filter Envelope Decay (0 = Fast – 127 = Slow)
Controller G - Filter Envelope Release (0 = Fast – 127 = Slow)
Controller H – Portamento Amount/Glide (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller I - Amp Envelope Attack (0 = Fast – 127 = Slow)
Controller J - Amp Envelope Decay (0 = Fast – 127 = Slow)
Controller K- Amp Envelope Release (0 = Fast – 127 = Slow)

I have made the demo in the box by just using a few samples and a simple drum beat made with the internal sequencer and fx, its not a real tune but just a quick demo.

POLYMOOG VOX HUMANA

This is a reproduction of the famous sound of the Polymoogs first preset - "Vox Humana"
This preset was the sound that gave the early Gary Numan singles and albums their unique character.

If you want to get an authentic Vox Humana from a sampler you need to sample every key from an original Polymoog, each sample needs to be over 15 seconds long to try to capture the evolutionary nature of the LFO movement.
This makes the sound very difficult/memory intensive to accurately capture.

So I decided to recreate it using the synthesis capabilities of the ultra.
This sound was created with 2 single cycle WAV samples, so the memory used is tiny yet the sound is better than all the Vox Humana samples I have tried.

The trick is the combination of saw and pulse width with the inclusion of independent LFO modulation speeds/amounts for pitch and PWM. there are about six different modulations interacting together.
Also the filters need to be set correctly plus they need to track the keyboard from closed on the low keys to progressively opening as you move up the keyboard.

This preset has no c/controllers assigned but the mod wheel has been set to portamento amount for performance control.

The onboard effects are stored in the preset using ensemble and reverb in series, the internal effects aren't great but hey, it also sounds very nice dry. Often Numan processed his Polymoog through a (now vintage) MXR Phase pedal that was set on a slow phase rate, this will get you even closer to his sound if that's what you want.

I found that if I turn up the hi frequency by 5db on my desk the sound is much better. I actually find this is the case with most sounds from the samplers outputs, anyone else noticed this?

The first two presets are mono while the second two have stereo movement, also included are the two waveform elements as extra presets.

Although it's not 100% identical to the original, it's close.
This is my first attempt and I welcome any improvements to it, so if anyone would like to build a closer approximation that would be great.

Love the demo on Soundcloud !! Did you play it in live or via Cubase ??

i did a cruise playing with Gary Numans guitarist. He was a really cool guy and the birds were all over him !!

i look forward to trying this out. You are very clever in configuring this.

i have an MXR Phazer which i put my Fender Rhodes thru. :grin:

Neither, I cheated. Quick and dirty just to make the demo.
I downloaded the midi file from the web. The sequencer in the E-MU will playback these files, so I just dropped it into a folder on the HD, loaded it into the sampler and added a bass synth to one part and the Humana patch to another.

Thats really great.

i did not even know that the EMU could play Midi Files !! i never thought of using it for that :shock:

Various sequences made using the midi clocks.
Continuous controllers A B C D and the mod wheel control various things, just mess with them and see how the sound alters.

Here is a demo of one of the presets made by holding down one finger and tweaking the controllers in real time. It's rough and ready but shows the clocks strengths and weaknesses well.

This bank contains a single cycle waveform that has been altered by modulating filter frequency, pitch and the amp envelope using an LFO .
The internal effects are set to preset mode to further enhance the patches, so turn on the internal effects
These presets maybe useful as templates, EFX or just fun to explore.
I have also made a synth from the micro sample and included it as the last preset.

Presets

000 - LFO UP
001 - LFO DOWN
002 - LFO UP & DOWN
003 - LFO RANDOM FREQ
004 - LFO FREQ & AMP TRIGGER
005 - LFO PITCH & FREQ
006 - DIGITAL STACK

PRESETS 000 - 002

The LFO modulates the freq and amp volume while the LFO rate is altered by Aux Envelope. These presets sound like falling/rising laser zaps.

Continuous controllers mapped as follows ...
Controller B - Filter Freq (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller C - Filter Res (0 = Off – 127 = Full)

PRESETS 003 - 005

The LFO is set to random and modulates the presets as named. These are great for those times when you want weird random sound beds, or computerized oddness.

Continuous controllers mapped as follows ...
Controller A - LFO Amount
Controller B - Filter Freq (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller C - Filter Res (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller D - LFO Speed

PRESET 006

This preset uses 6 instances of the digital waveform to create a synth.

This is a preset that uses midi clocks to gate a filter sweep sample.
The gate rate can be altered by continuous controller C.
By playing the controller many rhythms can be created.

Continuous controllers mapped as follows ...
Controller A - Sample Start(0 = Start - 127 = End)
Controller B - Sample Start LFO Modulation Depth (0 = Off – 127 = Full)
Controller C - Gate Rate (0 = 8 per bar – 127 = 16 per bar )
Controller D – Glide Time (0 = Min – 127 = Max)

If you could leave some comments that would be good :grin:
