Emu X and Is it just me ?

Postby sturoc » Thu Nov 29, 2007 4:04 am

I have had my E6400s for a couple of years now and while my job in Concert production takes me away from my small studio more than I'd like ( though gotta make the $). I seem to hit a wall here.
Lately been getting bogged down with delving deeper into the units, loading presets and searching for the sound for the nites composition inspiration.
At times I find a great sound by accident deep in the Emu's.
But time flies and next thing ya know it's late I'm tired and gotta go to work next few days Ugh. Am Getting tired of searching hard drives and discs .
While I'll never get rid of the these units Would Em X be a more efficent use of my time with regards to producing something quicker. A lack of ideas is not an issue But getting them down may be.
Any thoughts will be apreciatted.

hey sturoc,

I had the same issue. I had 15 gig of sounds on my HD and got lost in them. I don't think EMUX will help here because I think the problem can be represented as two perspectives.

Either A. you have to much choice or
B. You dont "know" you library inside out.

If these are indeed the issue EMUX wont solve this. What I did was to format the hd and start building my own banks. Now that I have done this I "know" what my library is and I still have almost 250 CD's of sounds for "inspiration" if I want it. The first bank I made was a production set just for myself. I use this for quick music writing ideas.
I also have a Bank I use for sound design. It has all the basic waveforms already loaded so all I have to do is layer, filter, eg etc.

but then again, per your subject, maybe it is just you

Thanks om for the tips
Seems like with my limited time just need to take it slow.
Your building banks tailored made is a great idea.
I think part of the frustration comes from my analog days where everything was in front of you not deep in a box.
As for Emu X Would all banks/presets and "cords" options be displayed on the screen ?

It may be alittle of both: me and technolgy.

Yeah, your right,

then again maybe its just me holding on to the past. I just bought my 3rd Ultra. Is that insane or not.

Maybe it's all of us?
