I have just noticed (better late than never) the EOS Link software in the download section. Two questions:

- Will it run under Win98SE?
- Does the sampler need to run a specific version of EOS? Mine has 3.00b.

Given that these machines came out around 97, I would have thought that Win98 would have been the target platform. I believe the only thing I didn't like about EOSLink is that it will only run on a scsi connection and won't run just over MIDI. The only other issue I am aware of is that I don't believe that the Beat Munger stuff works via EOSLink though I have only read this and have not tested it.

It should work with all versions of EOS.

glad i found this posting as i have a couple of questions if someone can help. i too want to use the link function. i have a scsi connector that i used with my 100MB Zip drive. am i to assume that you can use the same scsi cable and just add a same type scsi card to my computer in order for it to run? also is there any other software that i should load on my pc in order for it to all work together? lastly, i can't remember what type of scsi (1,2, etc.) it is so what type of scsi card should i be getting? thanks in advance!!!

Although support/development seems to have dried up, zoeos is a fantastic piece of software IMO. www.zuonics.com .

hey wig, thanks for the link and the heads up. i emailed the guy so i'm just waiting to hear what scsi card i need. are you using the product zoeos? if so, how do you like it? i don't have eos link so i'm not sure how they stack up against each other. thanks again, i really appreciate it!

I haven't used the program for a while, since I upgraded my computer to Windows Vista, and there are no Vista drivers available for my SCSI card.
I'd say the program does take a while to get used to, but once you've got the hang of it, it's superb at transferring samples across to your Emu and keymapping them - much easier from your computer screen!

Was't there a program called Emu Control that did what EOS Link did over MIDI too ? I cant find it despite a load of googling - it may in fact me on the Yahoo Emu Ultra boards (which are just mostly spam repositories now....)

Again, thanks Wig- one final question though. what type of scsi card am i to buy? i remember there being like scsi1, scsi2, some that are centronics connectors and others that are the smaller connectors, etc.. i'll surely have to order it online. thanks again and thank god for this board!

Any SCSI card will do the trick, as they are are backwards compatible with the earlier types (i.e. a SCSI 3 card will work fine with a SCSI 1 or SCSI 2 peripheral). You just need to make sure you get the right cables for the job - Emu samplers have a 50 pin centronics connector for SCSI.

hey wig-
got all the stuff (scsi card, cable and zoeos) and installed it all. zoeos runs fine but when i check the smdi preferences, it says "smdi unavailable". any ideas? i was able to successfully transfer samples back and forth between emu and pc but this shows up when trying to configure zoeos. your help is much appreciated once again, if you have any ideas or if you can point me in the direction of a resource. thanks.

I have to be honest, and say I'm not sure what SMDI means (could it be something to do with MIDI sample dumping? If so, you don't need to worry as you're using SCSI instead of MIDI to transfer sample data).
I wouldn't worry too much, anyway, if everything is working as it should!

Hey all-
Thanks to everyone contributing to this board. I was wondering if anyone had a copy(?) -is it a copy?- of EOS Link. I bought ZoeOS a couple of months back, yes, i know it's free now.... and haven't been having the best of luck with it so I was thinking about trying Link. Hoping maybe someone has a moment to tell me what the difference is between the two and if anyone has it, if they'd be able to share it (I'd pay if anything needed to be mailed, etc..). Thanks again to the many inspiring and helpful posters here. :thumbs:
