Just bought E4XT - Random Clicking - Should I return it?

Any problems with your Ultra sampler should be reported here, hopefully someone might know what's wrong.

Just bought E4XT - Random Clicking - Should I return it?

Postby bubbl3r » Wed Jul 30, 2008 8:37 pm

Hi, I just picked up a second hand E4XT Ultra with EOS 4.7. It doesn't have any upgrades - No RFX. That's the good news.

Now the bad news. I plugged it in and started it up. Once it's finished booting up, it starts to make random clicking noises, even with the volume turned off. I load a preset and press audition and I still have random clicking as the sample plays back. It doesn't matter what preset I'm using. If I'm lucky, it stops for a minute but it always comes back! Everything else seems to be fine functionally with the exception of some menu options showing up as grainy dots on the display screen (might be related to click problem? I don't know).

My question is should I just return the sampler? Or should I take a chance and try to get this beast working properly? If I start to mess with it too much, I doubt I'll be able to return it. Does this sound like a hardware issue (like an electrical short or power supply) or a software issue (EOS 4.7)? What would you do?

I would hate to give up on the sampler, but I also don't like paying good money for a machine that is potentially defective. My hardware sampler frustrations have already started and I just got the thing! :grumble:

By the way, I've done searches on the forum and the closest problem somewhat similar to mine is this one:

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

If anyone else has this problem, the answer is to set the Word Clock to "Internal" in Master>Setup>In-Out section. I got the idea from this post

So I'm keeping the damn thing!! Add me to the short list of EMU users! :spliff:
