E4 - Using a SCSI CD-R drive to write to CD 'cannot format'?

Postby mingle » Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:04 am

Hi,

I've tried two different SCSI CD-R/RW drives with my E-Synth and I can read CDs fine, but when I try to write data, I'm having no luck.

I've tried Plextor and TEAC CD-R drives... I'm running EOS 4.62...

I have a blank CD-R disk in the drive, and I go in the "Disk > Utils > Format" menu and get a "Cannot Format This Device Type" error.

I've also tried saving to the disk (without trying to format), but I get a "No Folders Exist on Drive" error.

Has anyone else been able to write to a CD-R disk from their E-Synth/E4 system?

If so, how? :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

It's not possible as the sampler's operating system doesn't support CD burning.

Hi,

That's strange, as the EOS 3 manual does mention formatting 'optical disks'.

Could it be that it will read/write CD-RWs but not CD-Rs?

Or are 'optical disks' those old IBM WORM drives - since when I do an 'info' on the SCSI CD-R/RW drives it shows then as "WORM" drives?

Cheers,

Mike.

The manual is referring to magneto-optical disks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magneto-optical_drive

@wigworld,

Thanks for the info... Pity the manual isn't more clear! :-)

So no E-mu samplers support CD burning?

Cheers,

Mike.

According to a several posts on this forum, DVD-RAM burning is supported as well.

Hmm... Curiouser and curiouser!

Can anyone out there confirm (ie: have they actually managed to write/burn CDs) that CD-R/RW drives will work on an E4-series sampler running EOS4.62?

I'm clinging on to a thread of hope! :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

Give up all hope. Not gonna happen. CD-R/RW burning isn't supported. DVD-RAM drives are a totally different technology which are essentially seen by the E-MU as SCSI hard drives.
