Enjoy the Silence

Depeche Mode do not and never have used any factory presets in their music. Yes they used a lot of e-mu samplers, but that was mostly due to Alan Wilder's personal preference for durable, user friendly equipment.
The chances of successfully re-creating a Depeche Mode sample without actually sampling it is next to impossible. Remember that most of their sounds were put through a Synclavier at the very least. Many of the sounds came from off the wall sources including many organic and natural every day sounds. There is a sample in People are People that originated from a German flight attendant doing her pre-flight checks. I can't pick that one out-can you? The only reason that I know this is that Alan Wilder himself told me so. He also made it clear that every sound was unique and never came from a factory preset unless it was altered so drastically that no one would ever know. The choir in ETS has elements of organ based waveforms embedded within it. While you may get 'close' to reproducing it, I doubt that you ever will get it quite right. The guy on youtube most likely sampled the entire chord from one of the remixes that were released in 1991, and gone from there.
But good luck though.

I agree to most of what you wrote in that post - but stating that they never used any factory presets is simply not true.

I have several 5.25" floppies for my Emulator II+ that contains samples easily recognizable on DM tracks.

Maybe I should look into the choir banks I have :-) ?

I also have an Emulator (I), but unfortunately not many factory discs for it.
