I just want to make sure I'm buying the right stuff to install a internal hard drive unit, were my floppy drive is currently. I read the past posts and is below all I need, or do I need another power type adapter? I have an E-Synth running 4.10. Any help would be appreciated, thanks:

Hard Drive:
Seagate ST920217A 20GB 2.5" 5400RPM IDE Hard Drive

Adapter:
LAPTOP HARD DRIVE ADAPTER KIT 2.5 TO 3.5 inch IDE HDD (Virtual Information Systems)

Power: ??

Am I wrong in thinking I can go the IDE route, or do I need to do the SCSI hookup since its an e-synth???

Also for SV1200: Are you giving up your floppy? No place else to mount the HD? What about upgrades, or are you at EOS 4.7 already? Just wondering.....

Hi Kramozzam, nope i'm running 4.10, what are you running? I currently have 64MB, flash, MIDI expansion, but thats it. I don't mind keeping the floppy in but I'm a little weary of installation elsewere, it just seems like the easiest option. This site is great, but theres conflicting threads, I just want to find out the sure option before I start buying stuff. IF I can do IDE, it seems like the quickest option. Do you have an E-Synth?

Yeah, I do. It an E-synth model: 6903 and the manual that came with it says you can load an internal drive in it, but not very specific. I'm running 3.20e figuring I should probably upgrade, and I know I have 4mb of flash RAM so I think I can handle the upgrade. Of course, I am unsure and would rather hear from people here. I also have effects loaded and 64MB.

Actually, I' installed an 2,5" HD in my ULTRA so I don't know
exactly about the ESYNTH. But I suppose, in terms of IDE ports,
they should be the same. I suppose you're talking about IDE - not SCSI.

Anyway, I recommend an adapter which directly offers connection
to your standard power supply, maybe something like this:

To my experience, the EMU is quite tolerant towards a lot of different HD
manufacturers. I used several Seagates and Western Digitals, but then
finally switched to a 80GB Samsung. In contrast, I had a lot of trouble
replacing the HD in the MPC4000. I ended up with an WD Scorpio - the only
HD that worked out of 4 different types.

I now find myself wanting to go down this route, and would also like some help.
I have an E Synth rack model 6804 with E Syn & Orbit/Phatt roms and 64 mb.
I've been using an external scsi Zip but now I'd rather get an internal solution.
What are the options here IDE, SCSI?
Has anyone tried/ is it possible to use a cf card ?
Do you have to lose the floppy to mount a drive ?
Power ?

Grateful for any help

BTW, what is the other simm board perpendicular to the ram and rom boards, but sits on the motherboard ?

I've just bought an e-synth classic to go with my e5000 ultra and it has a 2GB seagate scsi hard drive installed.

The non-ultra, ie classic, e-synths can only have a scsi HD installed unless you use a scsi to ide convertor.

The casing should have mount points for a hard drive on the side behind the floppy drive - both mine have these.

Fitting an IDE drive in the ultra was pretty easy, but beware if you don't have an official power harness and adapt a one to two molex splitter as I did: E-MU use reversed wiring colors to PC standard. Be sure you are connecting the 12V and 5V (vcc) lines the right way around! I fried a HD getting that wrong.
