Upgrading to e64

Postby The sye » Fri Oct 31, 2008 3:05 am

Hi everyone. .

been using a maxxed out esi-32 for about 4 years with an atari runnung cubase happily. .

now i am about to be given a e64 as a gift and there are a few things on my mind.

Firstly, the SCSI drive i'm using (syquest 230mb), will the e64 recognise the drive and load up my banks without any problems?

Also i am used to the interface on the esi-32, 2000, 4000. . will the EOS interface be tricky ay first? or will it be a comfortable transition?

I realise the e64 has multiple outputs (i've been wanting that for a loong time, so i can make use of my spirit mixer), how easy is it to assign those outs to different MIDI channels? (for example, drums of MIDI channel one to outs 2-3 and bass of MIDI channel two to outs 4-5,e.t.c.)

or am i just being paranoid and stupid?

any help will be much appreciated.

Nice gift.

Should work without a problem, there can be some banks where you had to change the e64 VCA/VCF Envelope to make them sound like in the ESI, there was especially one of ESI CDs where this goes.

Yeah, compared to ESI interface you nailed it: tricky at first, EOS samplers are complex compared with ESI-range.

You can detail-assign via PRESET EDIT menu or (via MULTI MODE page) send Preset/Midi channel to Main,Sub 1,2,3 or VOICE (the latter outputs like defined in PRESET EDIT).

Thanks very much for the response.

So far, things are going good.

Loaded up the banks, no problem.

The sound of the e64 is quite different to the sound of the esi-32(which i'm used to). Just wanna know, why is this? is it because of the chips and filters?

I'm getting used to the EOS interface.

Unfortunately, i didn't get a manual with my e64, so i'm figuring things out from scratch.

Does anybody know of any effective tips or shortcuts for the EOS system?

i don't like using pdf. manuals, so i'm on the hunt for a e64 manual. Until then,i'll try and figure out what i can through general messing around. still fighting the temptation to go out tonight, though 8-) ;)
