Just thought I'd let everyone know that these work great with EMU EOS samplers. The only problem is fitting it - I intend to make a special IDE cable to go between the adapter and the drive so I can mount it on the side of the drive rather than on the end.

Just a quick update - the yamaha ide-scsi adapter works ok as long as it's the only drive on the scsi chain - as soon as I attach another drive it stops working properly. :/

However it did let me attach my new 80gig ide drive on the scsi port and copy all the data to it from my old ide drive.

Anybody got any experience with other ide-scsi adapters?

Do you mean like this:

SCSI ---- Yam-IDE--- IDE DRIVE1
|
|
-------------- SCSI Drive (then maybe another IDE/SCSI ---- IDE Drive)

or

SCSI ---- Yam-IDE--- IDE DRIVE1 (Master)
.........................|------- IDE Drive2 (Slave)

I doubt the last configuration would work since these these interfaces from Yamaha were sold with their CD-RW drives back in the day which tend to be AT-API based and one interface used per SCSI connection. THey were OEM'd by Yamaha - maybe form IO-Data or another adapter firm.

Are there jumpers on this card ? they are usually:

3 sets of 2 pins - SCSI ID - blank is usually 0, jumpers on pin 1 is ID 1, 1 and 2 is ID 3 etc - binary
1 set of 2 pins - SCSI Termination on/off - on if its the last physical line in the SCSI chain. Devices will malfunction if termination is not right.
1 set of 2 Pins - Enabling/Disable SCSI Parity - usually off

To Do what you are trying may require two interfaces - since you can't specify two ID's on one card.

I copied my old drive ok by having it connecting it to the ide port on my ultra, and connecting the new ide drive to the scsi port using the Yamaha adapter.

The problem I am having is that if I connect another scsi device to the buss, the Yamaha adapter stops working correctly, and shows up as a "Yamaha CD-DRV ver2.0" rather than as a Maxtor hdd. It doesn't matter if the adapter is connected externally or internally - it only works if it the only device on the scsi chain.

Just thought I'd post an update on the latest situation:

I put the adapter and an old ide drive in an external case, and fiddled with the jumpers on the adapter until I got it working. I then attached muy other scsi devices to the chain and repeated the above until I got everything working on the chain. It turns out that the order in which I power the devices up makes a difference in order to detect the drive for the first time after changing the devices on the scsi chain, although once the adapter starts being detected ok the boot up order no longer matters.

I now have it working inside the sampler and can back up my banks to and from my pc (taking care to avoid simultaneous writes of course!)

I did want to get my Roland vp-9000 on the scsi chain too, but it seems Roland's scsi implementation is very basic compared to the emu and it can only just cope with basic drives on the chain - put another master device on there and the whole chain goes kaput. Shame coz I was hoping to be able to use the emu's hard drive to save the vp-9000 banks to.
