MIDI problems, sounds like it's filtered.

Postby wrecker13 » Sun Sep 14, 2003 8:53 am

So I've had this problem for a while but it's been the least of my worries. Now it makes me want to pull my teeth out. When I place my samples into presets they sound like ass, it's almost like they have a high-pass on them. Also, every time I press a key the tone changes a bit, like flanging. Now when I press the audition button, there are no problems, only in the presets. I've checked to see if there is a filter on but that's not it. I've set everything to zero in the cords and still no luck. What I think is probably the problem is my midi chain. It goes like this- controller->Roland JP8080->computer->EMU E5000->Roland JP 8080. I have the local key off on the 8080. Is the 8080 filtering the signal somehow? And if so, what the dilly yo? How can I fix this? Please help.

have you checked in the midi mix screen in multi mode, as sometimes you can still have a contoller offset value present there and inadvertantly save to disk not knowing its there and it cause your preset to be tweaked by this "rogue" controller value
this has stumped me many a time
hope his helps

edit:
ah, it may also be midi feedback, try disconnecting the thru from the emu to the roland and see if this helps

It was the JP 8080. There's a Single, Dual and Split mode. When I have it set to Dual or Split I hear the problem. But on Single it sounds fine. I don't know why, but it works.

i found a similer feature (bug) sometimes the sound is just lke this, the solution (for me anyway) is to reset the filter res, (in my case just opening and closing the midi cc) this sorts it out. To try this, just bind your modwheel to resonance and try opening closing it.

Not sure what causes it, but it happens and has happened even when the reso isnt set up

anyone else had this? :grumble:
