Hi!

I've hunting around for some time after buying a used E-Synth.

Great machine, great sounds (nostalgia as far as the ears can reach - and bandwidth/pubnch/character to die for!).

But my intention is to use the E-Synth as centerpiece in a live-rack and have the EOS sequencer drive the other synth modules in the rack.

I can't see, why this should not be possible, yet I am incapable of getting it to work.

Here's as far as I get: I can make a new preset, containing only a link to an external synth. If I play this in Whole mode, it works perfectly - the external module makes a noise as intended. However, it won't work in Multi mode - and it sure as heck won't work from inside the sequencer. No sound at all, untill I reset the track to play an internal sound, then it's back to normal. Gaahh!

How on earth is it possible to do this?!

I have seen others referring to he sequencer as an afterthought, but even then... there's got to be a way!

Does anybody know?

The sequencer is pretty bad. Get an MPC for sequencing.

I use an E-mu MP7 to sequence with - they work well together with EOS samplers.

...forget the EOS Sequencer.

Wow, I had no idea that the EOS sequencer fared so badly.

OK, then - I'll see what I can do by other means. First off, I'll run my keyboard stack from the computer (but that kind of takes off the 'live edge' I wanted). Later on, I'll se what can be done with other sequencers.

But first of all, I'll have to check and recheck with the manual: It's just too stupid to be true if you can only use external links in whole mode.

Can't you compose on the computer and save midifiles to the EMU for a live set?

The Emu Sequencer is doable but hard work and sloppy - stay away.

For a hardware sequencer you can't go too wrong with RM1X - rock solid and intuitive swing/groove programming to die for. Cheap as chips too!

Perhaps the old Akai MPC Machines are very good for you.
They have a good Price at Ebay and there Timing is legendary.

You really can't go wrong with an Akai MPC for sequencing. But at the
same time you have to realize, that this means you have two pieces
of gear which compete in some departments. I really like sequencing
on the MPC, but there have been couple of times in which I struggled
with the decision which sampler to use. This seems kind of luxury
problem, but it can really retard your productivity.

At the moment, I use the MPC for all drums, while using the Ultra
for melodic instruments and bass.

If you only need sequencing, rather than sampling possibilities, watch
out for a stand alone sequencer. Also the EMU Command Stations
offer superb live performance sequencing features and they go
cheaper than MPCs. Command Station are about 250-350 Euros,
MPCs 2000 (XL) 450-600 Euros.

I use the monomachine to controll my emu when doing livestuff. Its very livefriendly. Problem is that you cannot import midifiles so gotto create all sequenses whtihin the mono. Which in it self is really creative and fun.
