IDE to USB Converter

HI I just bought a USB to IDE converter online to make the IDE laptop drive I have be able to hook up USB to the cpu? but the cabling is very strange. Shouldn't I be able to hook up the ac adapter to this and plug in to the pc?

has anyone gotten these to work?

Why should this be in another section? It directly pertains to EMU ULTRA units. There are plenty of topics about transferring sounds from the emu to wav and removable drives. I am simply asking about another alternative which I have heard works. So I am hoping someone else has tried this.
