Has anybody tried midi pad controlers, like the Akai MPD 24, on their E-mu sampler? I can't afford an SP-1200 and already own two E-mu samplers so I was wondering?

i have a korg microkontrol that i occasionally use with my ultra. works nicely, has low latency and great velocity response

Thanks! But I'm more into the dedicated pad controler (enough keyboards at home!) so I have the ergonomy of the MPC with the sound of my E-mu's
Nevertheless, this is interesting information whereas to how the E-mu responds to an external midi controler through usb.

emu beats out those other samplers any day. the akai pads should have midi out on them as well...

the microkontrol is pretty much a padkontrol with smaller pads and a keyboard, so if the response of the microkontrol is good, the padkontrol will be the same or better.

You guys are gonna hate me : forget about the MPD and all the Korg MicroKrap? (I don't like the idea of spending money for an empty plastic box with a few knobs and more latency?) I decided I was going to buy an MPC1000?
Not that I like the Akai sound (I won't discuss it here? Too controversial?) but, hey? it sounded like the most obvious and versatile answer to my needs. Ok, it's twice the price of the MPD, but definitely twice the fun as well. Plus I can carry it with me. But don't worry : both my E-mu's stay in the studio and will be my favorite forever.

The mpd32 is simple to use and set up. It can't transmit sysex codes and was a bit pricey. Quite happy with it.
