hello all... new member alert.

im returning to an EMU ultra after years of soft-synths... not that i can say i really knew how to use one very well the first time around.

want to know what you think the best program to use to control the Ultra series is:

EOSWIZ or soundiver. i use logic and was considering dedicating an older machine to just control the parameters of the emu.

whats are things to know about this process. i have had flakiness with soundiver b4 (losing patches, but usually it was my error).

please school me with some knowledge...

dont think they work with emu's do they?
look in the download section for the EOS link, pc and mac versions are there.

naw... they both work... just to what extent they are able to controller the EMU is what im wondering, and what uses people have gotten out of them.

i seem to get that sounddiver is more of a sample/patch builder, and EOSwiz for editing MODS from a logic environment.

any experience kru?

i have used soundiver with my Emu before, it works great, you can control basically every parameter. i never heard of EOSwiz though

I use SoundDiver extensively. It's awesome. Never heard of EOSwiz -- give up a link!

from what ive gathered, sounddiver lacks the ability to choose all of the EMUs LFOs and this may be a sign that it lacks choices amongst other parameters.

since i will be a new newbie to the emus depths, i dont want an editor that misses functinality, since i will assume that what i see is what ill get...

Yes, SoundDiver does not have all of the functionality. Mostly due to the fact that E-Mu didn't program it in for external use (or at least, refuses to give up the dox that tell how to do it).

so do i use sound diver and then use the EMU hands-on for the things that SD cant do, or does another program fill the gaps?

ive been trying to get someone to take 5 mins out to fill me in on software conrollers/interfaces with the ultra series... their limitations, advantages and things to watch out for, things that are cool...
anyone spare 5 mins...

i tried this eoswiz, and got really f**kin annoied, i hit the button "reset" thinking it would reset the parameters on screen and it went and reset my emu to factory settings, my scsi was off, the headroom setting reset, and some other small niggles. This was quite distressing since i hardly ever touch those bits, it was a bit of nightmare getting it back in order. I think its sorted now.

Nothing that I know of fills the gaps (except, perhaps, EOSLink, but that sucks). My workflow is: All sample editing and basic voice setup on the screen. All complex cord manipulation, envelope tweaking, etc, through SoundDiver. It works...

what about the missing parameters on soundiver like some LFO options, and stuff like that... how do you work around. this is my BIG question in getting set-up.

Go into the E-Mu and edit it, I guess. Honestly, I never use the missing LFO shapes. I'm pretty happy w/ Sine, Square, Triangle, and Saw (which is what's available from SoundDiver).

last question:

besides ht eLFO, what other parameters can you not access?

since i dont know whats in there i may not know what im missing.

RFX stuff. Which is kinda a bummer... I'm trying to get documentation from E-Mu so I can code it myself but they claim that no docs exist. They also refuse to answer when I ask them if the sampler does actually support that functionality. Very weird.
