FS: Emax 1 SCSI Upgrade kits- Install available, SCSI drives

Add SCSI capability to your Non-SCSI Emax 1.

I currently have 9 kits available.
I have sold 29 of these kits.
I have only had to do "after the sale" fixes on 2 logic boards, so most people are successful installing the kit themselves......

Emax logic PCB Rev (version) 2 and 3 can be upgraded. Rev 1 boards cannot be upgraded.

A rev 3 board will require no modifications of the logic board.
A rev 2 board needs modified- instructions available at the Emulator Archive on the web.

Each set of chips will be tested in my Emax rack to verify operation prior to shipping.

Kit includes:
IP379a PAL
SCSI Capable EPROM (boot prom)
AM5380PC SCSI Controller
28-pin socket for the EPROM
Wire-wrap wire for the necessary modifications.
50-pin SCSI internal ribbon cable (non-terminated).
HD-capable Emax SE OS disk

Each kit is $50.

If you need the SE update, I can include the SE Update disk for an additional $7.50.

Shipping in the US is USPS priority mail insured. Up to two kits is $7.25 for shipping.
International Shipping varies.

I take paypal. djtbs1 (at) gmail.com

The kit does not include-
HARD DISK /SCSI Drive
"external SCSI adapter board" / or external connector- but external connectors are readily available from many sources (ebay or online).
A mounting plate to mount the HD (make one from sheet metal or steel, etc) -
or a 5 1/4 to 3 1/2 in drive bay converter kit / rails may work for this purpose also.
A power splitter - I am not including this as I have different reports as to whether this is needed for all emax.
Some Emax units already have a power cable for a hard drive. Both of my Emax did.

This kit has been successfully used with:
SCSI Zip
SCSI PC Card / Compact Flash drives
SCSI hard drive
IDE PCMCIA drive (works via an ACARD SCSI adapter.....)
IDE ATAPI Zip drive (works via an ACARD SCSI adapter.....)

The modifications are not extremely complicated.
You need to be reasonably skilled with a soldering iron to perform the modifications.
I am not responsible for failed modifications to your logic board.

If you are in doubt as to whether you can successfully install the kit, I will install the kit onto the Emax logic board for $50 in addition to the kit price (does not include shipping).

This includes:
Installation Labor
Verification of floppy and SCSI boot.
OS Floppy
Internal SCSI cable.

Installation for Emax Rev 2 boards only.

Working boards only.

Upon receipt of an Emax board, I will test that the board boots and appears to work properly.
If the board does not succeed boot test, I will send it back and not attempt installation, or we can discuss possible repair - I might be able to fix it.
In the event of non-working board, money would be refunded minus the return shipping cost.

I also have:
Qty 2 SCM PCD-50b Flash Media SCSI drives available. They are $30 each.
They are LUN based, so only the PC Card slot works with Emax.
PC Card slot DOES boot Emax.
Other slots work in LUN based units and in Windows.

Qty 4 ATAPI IDE Zip drives with SCSI bridges, tested to boot Emax.
Some black, some white. - can be used internally in Rack mount units, externally with keyboard units.
$20 each with the SCSI bridge included.

You may wish to put the Media drive or Zip internally into the Emax.
if so, you may wish to get a Slim Floppy converter PCB that allows you to hook up a slim floppy drive.
The converter PCB's are $17.50.
For floppy drive purchase I recommend TEAC FD-05G slim floppies.
