Busted jog wheel on my "new" e6400 Ultra

Postby dmlandrum » Wed Dec 02, 2009 5:26 am

I just picked up an e6400 Ultra from a user on eBay. I paid $200 for it, which seems a bargain, even if it is stripped down (16MB RAM, no hard disk). Those things I can solve, but the busted jog wheel might pose a bit of an issue. To be fair, the guy selling it was a pawn shop owner, not a synth tech, and he probably just checked for power-on and pushed a few buttons.

I poked around a bit inside, and it looks like the jog wheel is attached to a small PCB which is attached via a ribbon cable to headers on the board, so the whole thing looks removable without too much trouble. Does anyone know if this would be a difficult and too-expensive a fix? Since I'm planning ultimately on using my computer for editing (and maybe modulating) via MIDI anyway, should I bother?

I did spot how to install a hard disk and RAM, so I'll be upgrading both of those things soon.

Thank you very much for your help, and for welcoming a new Emu hardware owner to the world. :)

EDIT: I just realized I probably posted this to the wrong forum. No worries if an admin wants to move it. Sorry about that.
