Intern Ide hard disc E synth ULTRA

Postby analog1 » Tue Jun 02, 2009 10:25 am

Hi all
I'm new to this forum and this is because i just bought a used E SYNTH ULTRA med SCSI intern Hard disc.
The machine its amazing in my opinion, and as all of you noticed with very warm sound and headroom
My question is the following.
The SCSI hard disc that was included inside when i bought the machine is very noisy (as all the SCSI drives)
I really want to buy a ide hard disc and get rid of this old noisy hard disc.
has some body experience with the next WD modell.
Western Digital Scorpio 2.5" IDE 120GB
ATA-100, 5400 RPM, 9.5mm, 8MB cache
I need new power cable or i just can plug the the same cable from SCSI drive ?
Does the motherboard from E synth Ultra supports the power cable that comes with IDE ?
Any suggestions or experience are welcome.
Well done for the site
cheers

I'm not going to be much help here however I would like to bump this thread. I'm also desperate to put an IDE hard drive in my Emu Ultra however I'm looking for a quiet non power sucking answer.

I've seen the laptop HD route posted a few times and I'd be more than thankful for someone to post up 'still available off the shelf' as I don't particularly want to go down the ebay route.

Many thanks All

From what I understand, any PATA 2.5" harddrive will work fine. That WD looks like it fits the bill. From there you will need a 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE adapter (otherwise known as a 40-pin to 44-pin IDE adapter) and a molex power cable intended for a floppy drive. However, the leads on the E-Mus IDE power are switched, so you will need to modify the cable, or else you will destroy whatever drive you plug it into. Do a search around the site, there's plenty of info.

Hi all
I just bought the adapter 2.5-3.5 for one WESTERN DIGITAL SCORPIO 120GB 2.5" PATA 5400RPM 8MB
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD-108&cat=CBL
This adapter needs to be powered by molex power cable or stay passive ?
On the WD HD i will use the same molex power cable from the scsi EMU hard disk that was installed from the factory
This SCSI drive its very noisy and in my studio (small room) it sounds like hell!!!
From the other side this disk its full of samples from EMU that dont exists in Cd rom.
This disk was preinstalled when i bought the machine has anyone info about this (303 Landing preset)
I would like to add this library in to the new WD later
Cheers

Hi !
I'm going to try the same stuff in a few days with a 4200 RPM 80 GB 2.5 hard drive, I don't think you need to power the adapter as it is powered together with the HD, but pls let us know if it works well.

I wonder if SSD drive to IDE could work... It should be quite a good stuff between the hard drive and the Compact Flash experience : regular loading time, no noise... Maybe it shouldn't be powered by the ULTRA , depending on how much is needed for the drive.
If anyone knows about that topic ...
