e6400 Ultra - upgrading the RAM

Postby dmlandrum » Wed May 12, 2010 9:30 pm

I've been hunting around for appropriate RAM to plug into my e6400 Ultra to bring it up to 128MB. On eBay, there are a lot of people touting their RAM as being approved for this particular sampler, but it suddenly occurred to me that I'd be taking their word for it, and some of the prices seem somewhat inflated to me. So my questions are:

1) What are the actual specs of the RAM for the e6400 Ultra? Is this information in the manual anywhere? I haven't been able to find it.
2) Do I really need "certified by Emu" memory, or will any good pair of 64MB sticks meeting the appropriate spec do the job?
3) If I do need certified memory, who are the reliable vendors?

Thank you very much for your help! I did do a search in the forum for this question, but it seems that everyone here bought their sampler's memory already maxed out. :)

I also want to add a hard disk, but that's a whole other question.

Answered question a while back:

Rascal Revenge wrote:Your sampler can have 128 MB of RAM, and takes 72 pin sticks, but not 32 MB ones, see #3 of their compability chart:

1. Each of these samplers uses 2 RAM SIMM slots with a total capacity of up to 128MB.
2. Each one of these slots could hold up to a 64MB RAM SIMM.
3. You can use 4MB, 16MB or 64MB SIMMs in these products.
4. If you fill one slot only with a RAM SIMM, use slot 1. RAM will not be detected if it is only installed in SLOT 2.
5. If you install two similar sized RAM SIMMs, install one in each of the slots and the total memory will be the sum of the two RAM SIMMs.
For example, two 16MB SIMMs will provide 32MB of sample memory.
6. If you install two different size RAMs, install the LARGER size SIMM in SLOT 1. The SMALLER sized RAM should be installed in SLOT 2.
7. When you install two different size RAM, your total amount of RAM will be the capacity of SLOT 1 plus HALF of the capacity of slot 2.
For example, if you install a 64MB SIMM in slot 1 and a 16MB RAM in slot 2, you will have 72MB of total memory.

* 72-pin SIMM
* 70 nS or faster access time
* Parity or Non-Parity design
* EDO or Non-EDO (Extended Data Out)
* Glass Epoxy material, manufactured to JEDEC specifications

Still available @ Thomann site, just checked. http://www.thomann.de/gb/simm_64mb_ps2.htm

Thank you. My search hadn't turned that up for some reason, or I just didn't look hard enough.
